IMPLEMENT FOR LAYING AND PULVERIZING GROUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,646, dated May 23, 1899.

Be it known that we, EDWIN M. COX and JOSEPH S. GRANGE, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Orangeville, in
' the county of Emery and State of Utah, have sists in the particular construction of the'various parts and in the novel manner of combination or arrangement of said parts, all of which will be described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings formingapart of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a detail view. Fig. 4. is a sectional view taken on line as w of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a platform, which may be made of any suitable material, having one end curved up, and mounted upon the said platform approximately near each other on the rear edge and to the center are two uprights B and B. The upright B is provided upon its upper end with a segmental rack. Said uprights have oppositelydisposed journal boxes at a, in which is journaled the shaft 0, said shaft operated by the lever D and held in the desired position by the pawl b, which engages the segmental rack. It is also provided with an arm a, which projects at right angles thereto, swinging intermediate the uprights B and B and connected to the dependent arm 01 by a pivotal connection. Said tongue is pivotally secured between the braces F F, which are secured to the platform A and are bent up and project slightly over the curved edge'of the said platform, and secured to the tongue at this point is a foot-rest and a seat for the operator.
Secured to the bottom of the platform in any suitable detachable manner are the shares, which are made of a single piece of metal G, semicircular in shape, projecting beyond the curved portion of the platform and terminat* ingin points. These shares are provided with flanges e, cutters f, and points g.
In carrying our device into operation when it is desired to throw the points or shares into the ground the lever is thrown back, and when it is desired to throw themout the lever is thrown forward.
It will thus be seen that we provide an exceedingly cheap and simple implement for laying off and pulverizing ground and one that will proficiently'perform all of its in= tended functions.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a device for laying 0E and pulverizing ground, a platform having one end curved up, two semicircular pieces secured to the bottom thereof said pieces projecting out beyond the said platform and terminating in points, having flanges extending up beyond the curved portion of the said platform, cutters secured within the said points and flanges, and blades or points substantially as shown In testimonywhereof we affix our signa= tures in presence of two witnesses.
