To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs FRIEDMANN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, in the Province of Lower Austria, in the Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Injectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
In injectors which have two fixed concentric steam-nozzles the annular opening between the nozzles sometimes becomes choked,
-as is also the case with the holes of the inner nozzle,through which the steam enters the said annular opening, whereby the correct action of the injector is aiected. The clearing of the said opening and holes is in that case difiicult, as will be seen from the sections of a usual form of such injectors at a and b in Figure l of the accompanying drawings, as, in most cases, the steam-pipe connection and, with suction-injectors, the steam -spindle screw, have first to be disconnected before the inner steam-nozzle can be withdrawn,and, furthermore, the clearing of the small holes is very tedious.
The present improvements have for their object to obviate the said difficulties, and they consist, essentially, in arranging the inner steam-nozzle xed to the nozzle-fittings-that is, with the co-llecting-cone-and, arrangingit to project with its end that is directed toward the steam-inlet of the injector into the outer steam-nozzle. By this means an annular opening is formed for the steam-supply, which, if it becomes clogged with impurities contained in the steam, can be readily cleared by taking out the inner steam-nozzle, together with the entire collecting-cone fittings at the discharge end of the injector, so that free access can thus be gained to the said opening.
Figs. 2 to 7 show longitudinal and cross sections of various forms of injectors constructed according to my said invention. In all cases a is the outer steam-nozzle and b the inner one, the latter in the examples shown at Figs. 2, 3, 4., 5, and G being rigidly connected with the collecting-cone e by means of the ring c', united to b by means of ribs c, as shown at Fig. 3, which is a cross-section of Fig. 2, and having its rear end projecting into the outer steam-nozzle a. The outer diameter of b being made smaller than the inner diameter of ct the requisite annular openin g is formed between the two for the entrance of the steam.
The action of the improved injector is the same as all other injectors operating with an annular steam-jet. The entering Water has an increased momentum imparted to it by the annular steam-jet, by means of which it passes through the first part d of the collecting-cone. It is then seized by the steam issuing from the inner nozzle b and is propelled with the necessary momentum for overcoming the boiler-pressure into the collectingcone e,
Fig. 4 shows an example of a suction-injector with my improvement applied thereto. In this case the steam does not enter simultaneously through the annular orifice and the inner nozzle, as in Eig. 2; but it passes first through the annular opening, thereby drawing in the feed-water by suction action, and only afterward it passes through the inner steam-nozzle for effecting the feed. For this purpose the injector is provided at the inlet end with a spindle f, capable of being moved longitudinally and carrying a valve g, that closes the opening of the outer nozzle, and a cylindrical extension or cap h, inclosing the rear end of the inner'nozzle b. On drawing back the spindle f the valve g first opens the annular orifice of the outer nozzle, and on the further motion of fthe cap h is Withdrawn from the end of nozzle b, so as to allow the steam to enter the latter.
In Figs. 2, 4, and 7 the inner steam-nozzle -b projects free into the outer steam-nozzle,
While in the arrangement shown in longitudinal and cross section at Figs. 5 and 6 the nozzle b is supported in a central ring in the nozzle a, but without being fixed thereto. In the arrangement at Fig. 7 the inner steamnozzle b is held by a ring c', united to the nozzle d by means of ribs. c.
It will be seen that in all the above-described arrangements the inner nozzle b, being united withthe collecting-cone e and independent of the outer nozzle ct, can be readily IOO Withdrawn, together1 with the collecting-con e, from the delivery end of the injector.
I claiml. In an injector, a combining-cone and a lifting-cone in combination With' a forcingcone rigidly attached to the combiningcone and projecting into the lifting-cone, substantially as described.
2. In an injector a combining-cone and a lifting-cone in combination with a forcingcone concentric with and rigidly attached to said combining-cone and having its free end projecting into the lifting-cone, substantially as described.
3. In aninjector a casing and a lifting-cone, in combination with a combining-cone, a concentric forcing-cone, and a discharging-cone, said cones rigidly connected to one another' and adapted to be removed from the discharge end of the casing as a single element, substantially as described.
4. An inj ector-casin g and a lifting-cone rigidly connected thereto, in combination With a plurality of rigidly-connected cooperating cones forming a single element and adapted to be withdrawn from the delivery end of said casing, substantially as set forth.
5. In an injector a lifting-cone and a combining-cone in combination with a forcingcone rigidly attached to and concentric with the combining-cone and having its free end projecting into the lifting-cone, and a valve adapted to close said lifting-cone and provided with a cylindrical projection encircling and closing the end of the forcing-cone, substantially as described.
6. In an injector a combining-cone and a lifting-cone having a spider therein in combination with a forcing-cone concentric with and rigidly attached to said combining-cone and having its free end projecting into the lifting-cone and frictionally held in the spider therein, substantially as described.
7. An in j ector-casin g and a lifting-cone rigidly connected therewith, in combination with a plurality of cones rigidly connected, one ofsaid cones concentric with a second cone, said concentric cone having a free end projecting into the lifting-cone, and all the connected cones adapted to be Withdrawn from the casing as a combined single element, substantially as described.
