HAND-STAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,932, dated May 16, 189 9.
Application filed April 27,1898. Serial'No. 678,955. (No model.)
Stamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a hand-stamp of the type known as rubber stamps, and in such connection it relates more particularly to the construction and arrangement of such a stamp.
The present invention is an improvement upon the invention described and claimed in an application for Letters Patent filed by me under date of March 22, 1898, and serially numbered 674l,760.
The principal object of my invention is to provide in such a hand-stamp a supportingframe, flexible horizontally and of substantially triangular cross-section, the base of said supporting-frame being formed of projecting curved fingers or prongs flexible in a vertical direction, and upon the supporting-frame as thus constructed is arranged a strip of rubher or similar flexible material, that portion of the strip which rests upon the fingers or prongs of the base being provided with the type-surface, Wherebyin use the type-surface may be readily and accurately presented to the surface to be printed upon irrespective of the fact whether or not the surface be flat,
line 00 w of Fig. 1, looking downward. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view of Fig. 4, and Fig. 4 is a side elevational View of the handstamp having the outer flexible endless strip partly broken away to more clearly show the inner flexible frame of my improved handstamp.
Referring to the drawings, a represents the handle, and b the flexible supporting-frame, adapted to be united together by a screw or pin-d. The frame I? is formed, preferably, of spring metal and is substantially triangular in cross-section, the base of which is formed by a series of oppositely-projecting spring fingers or prongs b, which, if desired, may be formed by slotting the sides, as at 19 and continuing the divisions thus formed at an angle to the sides to form the base, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The frame-b is flexible in a horizontal direction, and its base, formed by the prongs bwhich are preferably arched, as at 19 is also flexible in a vertical direction.
Around the frame I) is stretched an endless stripe, of preferably india-rubloer or similar flexible material and of triangular cross-section. On that face e which rests against the prongs b of the frame I) is secured the type-. face f. To prevent the prongs b from cutting into the face a of the strip 6, they are formed, preferably, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2--that is to say, they are upwardly curved, as at b.
In the operation of the stamp, when the type-surface f is presented against a rounded or angular surface the slotted sides of the supporting-frame I) approach each other, movand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hand-stamp comprising a handle, a flexible supporting-frame substantially triangular in cross-section and united to the handle,
oppositely-arranged spring-prongs forming the base of said frame, an endless flexible strip placed around said frame and a type- IOO surface secured to said strip directly below the spring-prongs of said frame, all arranged so that in printing the frame is flexible in a horizontal direction, and the prongs, strip and type-surface are flexible in a vertical direction, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
