UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN TV. HILLERMAN AND NICHOLAS ROSSI, OF LYONS, KANSAS.
DRIER FOR LADIES HAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,153, dated April 18, 1899.
Application filed June 26,1897. Serial No. 642,552. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN W. HILLERMAN and NICHOLAS ROSSI, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Lyons, in the county of Rice, in the State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Hair-Drying Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention has relation to improvements in apparatus for drying the hair of a person after having been wet during the process of shampooing or washing; and the object is to provide a simple and efficient means or device fordrying the hairin the instances mentioned; and the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
lVchave fully and clearly illustrated the invention in the accompanying drawings, where 1n- Figure 1 is a view in elevation, showing the improved hair-drier connected to a seat or chair. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the dryingbox.
F designates suitable supportingdegs, in the meeting upper ends of which is supported and secured a vertical standard 1, formed with a socket extending from the upper end of the standard down into the same a sufficient distance to take and hold a depending support 2, adj ustably fitted therein and carrying the drying-box, substantially as shown in the drawings. The supports 1 and 2 are held in adjustable connection by a set-screw E.
G designates a chair of any proper construetion adapted for the purpose, which is detachably connected to the standard 1 by means of a connecting extension 3, the outer end of which is let into the standard 1 and secured by a pin or bolt I.
The support 2 is rigidly fixed to and carries the drying-box A, which is of any suitable metal or other material suited to the purpose and is of the shape substantially as shown in the drawings, having a solid flat top piece or covering 7, curved and directed upward from the rear and adapted to have the hair laid thereon to be dried. A head or neck rest 8 is formed in the front or upper end of the top plate, as indicated. In the drying-box is made a covered heating-chamber B, having metal walls and a door H, opening outward and provided with ventilating-apertures at the top and bottom, as shown. In the heating-chamber B is set a lamp 4, which supplies heat to the apparatus. The front of the drying-boX A is extended upward and forward and curved in elevation to reach conveniently into contact with the neck of a person seated in the chair and has a wooden plate 0 overthe exterior, which is covered with a cushion 5, and on the inner surface of the curved front part of the drying-box is fixed a'lining of asbestos 6 to prevent too much heat atthis portion to affect the comfort of the person having the hair dried.
The use of our improved hair-drier is apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings. All that is necessary to dry the hair after the person has been shampooed is to bring the head or neck of the person close to or against the front of the apparatus and then to arrange the hair loosely on the top plate of the drying-box, when the heat is applied and continued until the hair is dried.
What we claim is As an improved article of manufacture, the hair-drier herein described, comprising a metal drying-box A having a solid flat top plate 7 curved upward from the rear and a neck or head rest 8 formed therein, the front plate of the drying-box being extended upward and forward and curved in elevation, a covering of asbestos 6 on the outer face of the front plate, a wooden plate 0 over the asbestos, and a cushion on the wooden plate, a metal heating-chamber B inclosed in the dryingboX, a door having upper and lower ventilating-apertures in the drying-box opening into the heating-chamber, and a lamp in the heating-chamber.
JOHN W. HILLERMAN. NICHOLAS ROSSI. lVitnesses:
THOMAS BISHOP, THOMAS STONE.
