UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL I. ANTHONY, OF TECUMSEH, MICHIGAN.
WIRE FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 620,090, dated February 28, 1899. Application filed January 23, 18 91 Serial No. 620,343. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DANIEL P. ANTHONY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tecumseh, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W'ire Fences; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to' which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in wire fences of the variety which are composed of horizontal and vertical wires serially arranged and bound together at their intersec tions by means of peculiarly-formed links of wire in any suitable manner.
I attain the object of this invention by means of mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a complete section of my improved fence; Fig. 2, a vertical elevation seen in the direction of arrow E; Fig. 3, a horizontal plan seen in the direction of arrow F; Fig. 4, a vertical elevation seen in the direction of arrow G; Fig. 5, a vertical elevation seen in the direction of arrow H. Fig. 6 is an isometric view.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In Fig. 1, A A A A A represent a series of horizontal wires fastened in any suitable mannor to posts B. O C O in same figure represent a series of vertical wires.
In Fig. 4 the vertical wire 0 shows a bend D, wherein is seated a horizontal wire A. Link I, viewed from the front or from the rear side of the fence, represents the form of a figure 8. (See Fig. 1.) The center of this link, bent in the direction of lines K, is adapted to embrace wire Aand its terminal eyes J to embrace wire 0 and to seat themselves within bends L, thus securely locking wires A and 0 together in such a manner as to positively prevent said vertical and horizontal wires from slipping upon their point of contact with each other.
Having thus described my invention, I do not claim, broadly, means for fastening wires A and 0 together; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a wire fence, cross-wires and a tie for.
said cross-wires comprising a wire, a central bend therein engaging diagonally both said cross-wires, a backward loop in said tie-wire, on each side of said central bend, engaging one of said cross-wires, and abend near each extremity of said tie-wire whereby said extremities are caused to point toward, each other and whereby each end of the tie-wire is caused to engage each of the cross-wires.
2. In a wire fence, intersecting wires, each having an opposite outward bend at the point of intersection, and a tie for said intersecting wires comprising a wire, a central bend therein engaging diagonally both said cross-wires, a backward loop in said tie-wire, on each side of said central bend, engaging one of said cross-wires, and a bend near each extremity of said tie-wire whereby said extremities are caused to point toward each other and whereby each end of the tie-wire is caused to engage each of the cross-wires.
In testimony whereof I have affixedmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL P. ANTHONY.
