FILTER FOR CONDUCTOR PIPES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 617,032, dated January 3, 1899. Application filed May 11, 1898. serial No- 680,360. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, ALFRED MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filters for Conductor- Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to produce a filter to be attached to a conductor-pipe to prevent leaves and sediment from being carried with the rain-water into the cistern.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the filter, a portion of the outer walls of which are broken away to show the interior thereof. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section through the filter.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the both views.
A is the conductor-pipe.
B is the filter-chamber. B and B compose the rear wall thereof, B and B the side walls, and B is the front Wall.
E is an inwardly-projecting ledge extending from the rear and sides of the filter-chamher, formed by turning inward the edges of the pieces B and 13 0f the back and the pieces 13 and B of the sides of the chamber B at their adjacent edges and fastening these inturned edges together with solder or rivets.
B is a hinged door providing means for access to the interior of the filter-chamber B.
O is a wire screen.
D is a framework for the filter fabric. It
attached to the framework D by needle and thread or in any other convenient way.
The wire screen 0, the filter-sacks D D and the framework D are removable through the opening closed by the door 13".
In use this filter is connected with the conductor-pipe and the rain-water permitted to run through it on its way to the cistern. The sediment in the water is left in the filtersacks D and D while leaves, sticks, &c., are caught by the wire screen 0 before reaching the sacks D D To clean the filter, access is had to its interior through the hinged door B and the screen O and the filter-sacks D D may be thus removed for renewal or repair.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a water-filter for conductor-pipes, in combination, a filter-chamber having an inlet and an outlet, said chamber being formed with a two-piece side, the adjacent edges of the side being turned inward to form a supporting-ledge within the filter-chamber, a filter fabric in the chamber, and a supportingframe for the fabric, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a water-filter for conductor-pipes, in combination, a filter-chamber having an inlet and an outlet, an opening in said chamber, a closure for said opening, said chamber being formed with a two-piece side the adjacent edges of which side are turned inward to form a supporting-ledge within the filterchamber, a filter fabric in the chamber, a supporting-frame for the fabric and a screen substantially as and for the purpose specified.
ALFRED MARTIN.
