T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, C. F. ZIMMERMANN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Strap for Accordeons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable t same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
I The drawing represents a perspective View of this invention.
This invention relates to a strap for acoordeons, which forms a double loop, and one to admit the thumb of the hand which liable to 'sl the same.
one to passround the wrist grasps the accordeon, in such a manner that the strap is not ip on the hand, and the player is enabled to operate the accordeon without danger of losing hold oi' Usually accordeons are providedwith a simple loop ot`- leather to receive the thumb of the right hand, by which the pulling and compressing of the bellows of the instrument are eeeted. to the player a firm hold of the instrument, particularly with large accordeons or flutinas,'and it is utterly impossible to pass quickly` from the deep `to the high tones. 'The whole strain is brought to bear on the thumbJ `and the operation of playing a large instrument becomes very tiresome and dicult.
These disadvantages are avoided by my strap, A,`whieh forms a double loop like the figure 8, one loop to pass`over the wrist of the hand, and the other to admit the thumb, as shown in the drawing. secured to the instrument by a hingejoinna, so as to leave its .movements quite free, to expand and compress the bellows Without danger that thev strap might slip, and furthermore he can move his hund freely from one end of the key-board to the other. The strain caused bythe operation of the instrument is brought to bear on the wrist instead of on the thumb alone, and it is much easier to play an accordeon with one of my improved straps than it is to play the same instrument with the ordinary loop,
What I-claim as new, and desire toscure by Letters Patent, is-
A strap for accordeons and other similar instruments, as and for the purpose described. i
Also the combination of the hinge-joint with the strap, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. Thevabove'speciication of my invention signed by me this 5th day of July, 1866.
