UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
DAVID L. MAX, OF HOUSTON, MISSOURI.
. LINE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 615,729, dated December 89 A lication filed February 17, 1898. Serial No. 670,618. (No modeli) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID L. MAX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Texas, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Line-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in an appliance for holding the lines of the teams to farm-wagons and other vehicles, the object of which is the convenience and safety of the driver and to prevent teams from running away during the absence of the driver. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated herewith.
Figure 1 is a front view of my holder attached to the front gate of awagon, and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section showing a side view of the same.
The drawings are a complete representation of the appliance with the bolt Z) and thumb-nut O, which passes through slot E, and the front end-gate of the wagon-bed.
A is a bar of iron or steel one and a-half inches (1%) wide, three-eighths (it) of an inch thick, and twenty (20) inches long, with a slot three-eighths (-g) of an inch wide and eight (8) inches long at the lower end of said bar, as shown at E.
B is a steel spring three-fourths (i) of an inch in width, one-eighth 1,-) of an inch in thickness, and seven (7) inches in length and is fastened to the bar A, as shown in the illustration, by means of rivets, said spring B coinciding in height with the bar A, but standing apart from the bar A one inch, thus forming a fork six (6) inches in length. At D is shown a staple by means of which the bar A is bound to the front end-gate of I the wagon, but will permit the said bar to be adjusted either up or down. The drawings represent the appliance as it appears to the driver when placed on the inside of the front end-gate of the wagon, although it is evident that said appliance may be placed on the outside of said front end-gate, providing the spring B is placed next to or fronting the driver.
I do not limit myself to the exact propor DAVID L. MAX.
