SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 614,923, dated November 29, 1898.

Be it known that we, WILLIAM S. ALTER and ELLIS W. ANOHORs,citiz ens of the United States of America, residing at Tarentum, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in drawers.

The invention has for its object the provision of a drawer for desks, &c., that will not bind and still be capable of fitting tightly in place, being simple in construction, practical, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the above objects in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more. specifically described in detail.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference designate like parts throughout the several views, in which Figure l is a perspective view of our im.

rear end piece of the lower section, so as to prevent the upper section from moving forward. Secured to or formed upon each of the upper edges of the side pieces of the lower drawer-section is the tongue 3, and within the under edges of the side pieces of the upper drawer-section are formed grooves 4, which are of such length as to give a limited movement, as shown at Fig. 2, where the up per drawer is partly drawn out.

To reduce the friction upon the sides of the drawer, we attach afiat spring 5, one to each side, and pivoted to these springs are the rollers 6. Alock 7 is set within the front of the upper drawer-section 1, which is provided with double-acting locking-bars 8 and 8.

When the drawer is closed, it fits snugly at its upper and lower sides, as shown at Fig. 2, and upon pulling out the lower section of the drawer moves first, as shown.

Having thus fully shown and described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. An improvement in drawers comprising a drawer formed of two tapered sections one upon the other, a stop-plate at the rear of the lower section, and a tongue and groove at their connecting edges, substantially as shown, described and for the purpose set forth.

2. An improvement in drawers, comprising a drawer formed of two tapered sections one upon the other, a stop-plate at the rear of the lower section, tongues and grooves arranged upon the edges of the drawer sides and springs carrying antifriction-rollers arranged upon the sides of the said lower section, substantially as'shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
