PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. IVEBER, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
RAIL-JOINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 614,911, dated November 29, 1898.- Application filed April '7, 1898. Serial No. 676,761. (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. WEBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Rail-Joint, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to rail-joints, and has for its object to simplify and lessen the cost of their construction.
I will describe the construction of a railjoint embodying myinvention and then point out the novel features in the claims.
The accompanying drawing is a vertical transverse section of a rail-joint.
A represents an angle-chair; B, one of the rails; C O, the fish-plates, and D D a bolt and nut for securing the several parts of the joint together. The angle-chair A is preferably a rolled one and comprises a base a, on which the ends of the rail-sections are supported, and an integral upwardly and inwardly projecting flange a, which serves to support one end of the bolt. The chair is further provided with an integral strengthening-rib a at the meeting line of the base and flange, which extends the whole length of the chair. The face of the fish-plate O that is adjacent the flange a is inclined to correspond to the inclination of the flange. With this arrangement of parts it will be observed that I am enabled to obtain a rigid and strong joint, the inclined flange serving as a bracefor the ad jacent fish-plate,which is held tightly against the head and flange of the rail-sections.
I claim as my invention- 1. A rail-joint comprising an angle-chair,
fish-plates, and securing means; said anglechair being composed of a base upon which the adjacent ends of the rail-sections are supported, and an integral inclined straight flange, extending the whole length of the base and that fish-plate which is between the rail and inclined flange having its face inclined to correspond to the inclination of the said flange, substantially as shown and described.
2. A rail-joint comprising an angle-chair, fish-plates, and securing means; said anglechair being composed of a base upon which the adjacent ends of the rail-sections are supported, an integral inclined straight flange extending the Whole length of the base, and a strengthening-rib at the meeting line of the base and said flange, and that fish-plate which is between the rail ends and inclined flange having its face inclined to correspond to the inclination of the flange, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE A.'WEBER.
