@uiten tetes @anni @frn JOHN SEEMAN AND SILAS P. OATROW OF MIDDLETOWN, Letters Patent No. 61,473, dated Jam-tary 22,l 1867..
' llldPRVEl). CLOTHES-DRYER.
To ALL wHoM 1T MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, JOHN SEEMAN and SILAS P. OATnow, of Middletown, in the county of Butler, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Clothes-Rack or Horse; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, rclear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part oithis specication.
The present invention relates to a novel constructionvoi' a clothes-rack or horse, whereby, when not in use, it can be folded. into a very compact shape; the rack, when opened for the hanging of clothes uponvit, possessing many advantages, which will be hereinafterv particularly vdescribed-- In the accompanying plate of drawings our improved clothes-rack or horse is illustrated- Figure 1 being a perspective view of the same opened. i I
Figure 2, a similar view, closed; and
Figure 3, a perspective view 'in detail.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. v
A, in the drawngs, represents our improved clothes-rackor h'orse, which consists of two similar frames B, having cross-bars b, and hinged together at their upper ends so as to be opened from and closed upon each' other, as is shown in the drawings, figs. 1 and 2, respectively, tie-cords Iz limiting the extent to which the Vtwo frames B can beopened from each other. E, two frames, hung tothe upright frames B, one to each of the same, so as to swing thereon, which two frames E, when in a horizontal position, as plainly shown Vin fig.
1 of the drawings, arethere secured or held by locking them together through their ends G,'si1i tably notched to -it and lock into each other, the said frames E, when the clothes-rack is closed orl shut up, being. swung down and against-the sides of the same upon opposite sides of the framesB. H, hooks 'or pins, secured in the end pieces of the horizontal frames E, which hooks are provided for the hangingv'of clothes upon them, such asl skirts, dresses, etc.,iwhen the clothes-rack is opened. i
Among the many advantages securedx by our improved clothes-rack may be here mentioned as lthe most important, that, first, the rack, when closed or shut up, will De very compact in shape, taking' up but very little space in a room, while, when opened'for receiving clothes, it presents a large amountl of hanging surface second,a free circulation of, air is secured about 4the clothes upon the horse; and third, the rack issimple, cheap, and durable -in construction, thus rendering-it one of the most desirable articles for household use.
We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent I: l In combination with'the hinged frames B, the frame 'E hung thereto and lock-ing together', substantially as described for the purpose specified, p JOHN 'SEEMAR- SILAS P. CATROW.
