TO ALL WHOM IT MAY O'ONOERN: I
Be it known that I, CYRUS HILL, of Dover, county of Piscataquis, and S tate'of Maine have invented a new and useful Composition for Making Roofs, Covering Walls, -Pavements, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear, full, and exact description of the same.
, To enable others to compound and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it. v
I take of coal tar three gallons; linseed oil one quart; of clay, plaster, and pulverized slate, eachan equal quantity, and mix into the tar and oil until it forms a paste of properconsistency to spread easily. When thus prepared, this compound forms an elastic cement, that is water-proof and not liable to crack by exposure I to the extremes of heat and cold. It is spread on tarred paper or canvas in the usual manner for forming 'a. roof. It is also 'well adapted for covering the walls of cisterns, cellars, &e., and also for forming pavements or walks.
