RING ATTACHMENT FOR MAIL CATCH PCUCIHES.
(Application led. July 18, 1898.) N 0 M u d e l UNITED STATES PATENT nn'rcin.
JEFFERSON VRIGHT, OF NEENAII, WISCONSIN.
RING ATTACHMENT FOR MAIL CATCH-POUCHES.
SFEOIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 613,749, dated November 8, 1898.
Application led July 18, 1898. Serial No 686,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Neenah, county of Winnebago, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Ring Attachments for Mail Catch-Pouches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in ring attachments for mail catch-pouches so arranged and constructed as to hold the pouch firmly to the crane and to release the pouch from the crane-easily and safely without damage to the pouch or mail contained therein when taken from the crane by the catcher on the mail-car.
With this object in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a view of my improved spring-loop attached to the lower end of a mail-pouch as hung on a crane. Fig. 2 is a side View of the loop.
In Fig. l the numeral l represents the spring-loop engaging leather loop 2 on the pouch 3 and iron finger 14; 3 3, pouch; 4, contracting strap; 5, leather loop on the end of pouch 3 3; 6, iron ring engaging leather loop 5 and iron finger 7 g 8, upper arm of crane; 9, weight on upper arm of crane; 10, hinged clamp; 1l, stanchion; 12, hinged clamp; 13, lower arm of crane; 14, iron nger of lower arm of crane engaging springloop l.
Fig. 2 shows an improved spring-loop madev of a single bar bent in a closed U shape, with its contracting ends beveled to form an outwardly-opening mouth, so that it can be' inserted into the lleather loop of pouch easily withoutcuttingtheleatherloop. The springloop also serves for a ring for hanging the pouch on the rack in the car.
The device is very simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and with proper use is practically indestructible.
The operation is as follows: The open springloop being secured to the lower or lock end of the pouch holds the iron finger of lower arm of the crane between its contracting ends. When the pouch is caught by the catcher on the mail-car, the spring-loop opens and releases the lower end of the pouch. The pouch then becomes slack, and the weight of the pouch being held by the catcher the ring supporting the pouch on the upper arm of the crane slips off easily without damage to the pouch.
Having fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters to engage the iron inger of the lower arm of the crane.
JEFFERSON WRIGHT. Witnesses:
FRED WRIGHT, ALMA N. DAHLGREN.
