PATENT EGG-POACHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 61 1,843, dated October 4:, 1898.
Application filed May 6,1898. Serial No. 679,875. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. KNAPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Poachers, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to a device for poaching eggs.
The object of the invention is to provide an egg-poacher of improved construction, as will be hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top View of the egg-poacher. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the egg-poacher, one of the rings and one of the egg-seats being shown in section. This figure also shows the rings dotted in the elevated position. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the vertical stem and shows the guide device.
A is a-surface plate and is provided with egg-seats I), raised above the top surface of the plate. Each raised seathas a number of small holes a to permit the hot water to have free access to the eggs, so as to quickly cook same and also to prevent the egg from sticking to the egg-seat. By having the egg-seats slightly raised any water that may be in the ring and about the egg when the device is lifted out of the hot water will at once drain off upon slightly raising the ring d, whereas when the seats are concaved more or less Water is retained. A vertical stem'e is fixed rigidly on the plate and has a disk handle 6 at the top. A sleeve F surrounds the vertical stem 6 and is adapted to move up and down on said vertical stem. This sleeve F carries with it several rings cl, each of which when in the lowered position will surround or register with one of the raised egg-seats b. The stem 6 has a vertical slot g, and at its upper extremity a lateral notch h is cut in one of the side edges of the vertical slot, the purpose of which will be presently described.
The sleeve F terminates at its upper end in a flanged head '5, which serves as a convenient means for raising the sleeve and rings d from the surface plate A. The head z'has a projecting lug j, whichextends into the slot 9 of the vertical stem. This lug serves to prevent the sleeve F from swiveling or turning horizontally on the stem 6 and insures accuracy of registration of the rings with the raised egg-seats b.
The lateral notch It serves as a retaining device, so that when the head 2' is raised a slight turn of the head will place the lug j into the notch and will hold the sleeve and rings in an elevated position, as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In an egg-poacher the combination of a surface plate provided with egg-seats; a central stem secured to said plate; a sleeve Vertically movable on said stem and carrying rings; and a guide to prevent the rotation of said sleeve on the stem when raising and lowering.
2. In an egg-poacher the combination of a surface plate provided with egg-seats; a central stem secured thereto and having a vertical slot; a sleeve carrying one or more rings and vertically movable on said stem; and a lug on the sleeve which enters the slotin said stem, whereby when the rings are lowered they will register with the egg-seats, as described.
3. In combination a surface plate having raised egg-seats perforated with holes; a stem secured thereto and having a vertical slot with a lateral notch at its upper extremity; a sleeve carrying a plural number of rings and Vertically movable on said stem; and a lug on said sleeve which enters the slot, whereby when the sleeve has been raised a slight turn will place the lug in the notch and hold the rings in the elevated position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of twotwitnesses.
GEORGE W. KNAPP.
