(Application filed Feb. 26, 1898.)

m: NORRIS vzrsns ca. Fuchs-um UNITED STATES PATENT Trice.
GEORGE WV. GOLDEN, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SASH-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,246, dated September 2'7, 1898.
Application filed February 26, 1898. Serial No. 671,744. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. GOLDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and usef ulIm provements in Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to looks for windowsashes intended especially to be applied to the meeting-rails thereof, and it is embodied in the parts, arrangement, and combinations thereof, hereinafter described, and particularly set forth in the annexed claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional perspective view of the meeting-rails of an ordinary window-sash, showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a cross-section at one side showing the stops on the upper sash.
Fig. 3 is a section on line x 00.
A and B are the upper and lower sash. The upper sash is provided with lugs, such as b or other securing means or stops, also with a headed stud D at the middle of its meeting-rail.
D is a plate resting on the meeting-rail of the lower sash and adapted to slide to or from the upper sash, being guided on the studs or screws H, which pass through the slots E in the plate.
F is a hook pivotally secured on the plate, having a finger-piece by means of which the hook may be turned. The operator grasps the finger-piece on the hook and turns it until the slot G in the hook engages the stud D, when aoontinued movement of the hook will cause the plate to be drawn across the joint The plate may be drawn down at the ends by beveling the edges of the plate or the under side of the lugs.
The intermediate points may be drawn down by forming the inclined bearings for the heads of the screws H in the plate.
WVhat I claim as my invention is- 1. In a sash-lock for meeting-rails of sashes, the combination of a plate slidably secured to one sash, a cam pivoted on said plate, a stud on the second sash with which said cam engages for moving theplate, and lookinglugs carried by said second sash into engagement with which said plate is moved by said cam.
2. In a sash-lock for meeting-rails of sashes, the combination of a plate provided with a guide-slot, a stud secured to one sash working in said guide-slot, an inclined bearing on said plate engaging with a portion of said stud, locking-lugs on the second sash having faces adapted to engage with the face of said plate one of said faces being inclined, and means for moving the plate into locking engagement with said looking-lugs.
3. In a sashdock for the meeting-rails of window-sashes, the combination with a plate having at each end a beveled edge and guideslots having inclined bearings at the sides thereof, screws passing through said guideslots into the lower sash having heads engaging said inclined bearings, locking-lugs secured to the upper sash adapted to engage said beveled edges, a stud D secured to the upper sash, and a cam pivoted to said plate having a slot in which said stud D works,
substantially as and for the purposes described.
GEORGE W. GOLDEN.
