Be it known that we, R. B. PARKS and JZ R. PARKS, of Neponset, Bureau county, State of Illinois, have invented a. new and improved Cultivator; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or top view of our invention.

This invention relates to a new and improved cultivator of that class designed for cultivating crops which are grown in hills or drills, and it consists in a novel construction and arrangcincntof parts, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby the driver will have full control over the ploughs', so that the latter may be moved or adjusted in a lateral direction to conform to the sinuosities of the rows, and also raised and lowered to regulate the depth of their penetration into earth.
A represents a rectangular frame, which is mounted on two wheels, B B, having the drivers seat, 0, on its rear part. D D represent two plough beams, which are attached to the under sides of the frame A by joints a, said beams having a longitudinal position relatively with the frame A, parallel with each other, and allowed to turn or swing freely from their points of suspension, to wit, the joints a. Each plough beam Dhas two standards E E attached to it by pivots b, the standards E being attached to the inner sideof the beams, and: the standards E attached to the outer sides of the same, the standards E being in advance of the standards E. These standards are connected by cords or chainsc to levers 13, secured to the beams D, saids cords or chains passing over pulleys d at the sides of the beams. The levers F are retained or held in place at any point within the scope of their movement by catching into toothed semicircular racks G attached'to the beams. Each beam D has a knee or right-angular bar, H, attached to it, the upper ends of which are pivoted to the ends of a bar; I, and the lower ends connected by links a to treadles J J, the front ends of which are connected to the treat end of frame A, and the rear ends being within reach ofthc feet of the driver on seat 0. K represents .ploug hs, which are secured to the lower end of the standards E E, as follows: The standards have each a m etal bar, L, secured to them by a pivot, f, and through the upper end of each bar L a set-screw, g, passes. These set-screws bear against the standards E E, as shown clearly in fig. 2. The ploughs K are attached to the bars L and it will be secn'by referring to fig. 2 that by adjusting the set-screws g the ploughs K may be placed in a more or less angular or oblique position, as occasion may require. It will also be seen that the ploughsmay. be adjusted higher or lower to regulate the depth of the furrow, as may be required, by actuating the levers E, and by this means may be raised entirely out of the ground when necessary. By actuating the treadles J J the plough beams DD may be turned and the ploughs K moved laterally to conform to the sinuositis'of the rows oi' plant's. v
Thus it will besecn that the driver has full control over the ploughs, and the crop may be perfectly cultivated, however uneven the ground or crooked or sinuous the rows of plants may be.
' Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The angular bars H, pivoted to bar I, and connected with the treadles J by links e, in combination with I i the beams D, and operating substantially as described for the purpose specified.
2. The pivoted bars L in combination with the ploughs K and standards E E, and set-screw g, substantially as described for the purpose specified. i
