GEORGE O. DRAPER, OF HOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE DRAPER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE AND PORTLAND, MAINE.
SPINDLE AND BEARING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 609,758, dated August 23, 1898. Application riled November 30, 1897. Serial No, 660,211. (No model.)
may be easily adjusted verticallyto effect the proper fit between the pintle of the spindle and the bolster.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a spindle-bearing embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a perspective detail of the bolstersupport detached.
The spindle S, havinga tapering pintle, the bolster-case 13, having a threaded shank B to receive a nut B by which the case is retained in position on the rail O, the sleeve-whirl W,
secured to the spindle, and the bolster D, as
to its general features, may be and are of usual or Well-known construction.
Referring to Fig. 1, the upper end of the bolster is surrounded and frictionally en gaged by a bolster-support, shown as a collar 0 F, slotted or split at f, Figs. 1 and 2, which support rests on the upper end of the bolstercase. The bolster is thus suspended from the support within the bolster-case, and while the frictional grip of the support on the bolster is sufficient to retain the latter in adjusted position the bolster may be moved longitudinally relatively to the support to efiect vertical adj ustmentof the bolster, the spindlepintle being extended into the bolster, and then both are inserted in the bolster-case until the pintle strikes the step.
A spindle step or end bearing D is shown in Fig. l on the bottom of the closed end of the bolster-case.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a bolster-case, of a bolster, and an expansible annular support for and to frictionally engage the bolster, said support being carried by and at the upper end of the case. I
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE O. DRAPER.
