ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE FOR ASSISTING ANATOMICAL ORGANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 609,614, dated August 23, 1898.
Application filed March 22, l 89 8.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES DOTY, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Appliances for Assisting Anatomical Organs, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to devices and appliances for assisting anatomical organs in the performance of inherent natural functions.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved appliance of this class whereby the male generative organs are aided and enabled to perform their natural functions, consisting in an elastic device creating a pressure upon the corpus cavernosum and against the crural roots in front of the pelvis and passing behind the scrotum, combined with suitable means for producing a longitudinal strain upon said device to increase or regulate its tensional pressure, such as an electric belt or a connection to and in circuit with such a belt, whereby by the electromagnetic power applied strength is given to the branches of the pubic nerves and the hypogastric plexus and the muscles are stimulated to a complete condition, the loop being wholly elastic and when drawn tight elastically bears against the upper side of the organ, producing a congestion and holding the blood confined in the erectile tissue for a sufficient length of time.
It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which'- Figure 1 is an elevation or plan view of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same in substantially its position in use.
A represents an electric belt of any suitable construction, having a buckle a, by which it is adjusted to the figure. To this belt an attachment b is suitably connected, comprising a suitable fabric or holder in which suitable metallic plates are inserted or secured in such manner as to produce electrogalvanic action, or being suitably connected to the belt to act as a conductor of energy therefrom, the dotted squares indicating one form or type of such plates. To this conductor a-loop c is suitably and flexibly connected, as by a link d. This Serial No. 674,811. o model-l loop consists of a piece of suitable whollyelastic material, as rubber or a rubber cord.
By the adjustment of the band strain is applied to the loop to stretch it elastically and thereby produce a downward and rearward pressure against the corpus cavernosum, which is a strong fibrous coat and under which is a complete network of vascular erectile tissue. This loop passes down and back behind the scrotum and bears also against the two roots of the crura in front of the pelvis.
Anatomically the corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum consists of a structure filled with a plurality of blood vessels and cells or cavities similar to sponge cells, all being connected to the veins and branches of the pelvic artery and which under excitement become filled with blood and produce an erectile congestion especially when under strictural pressure or local compression, such as that produced by the loop closely adjacent to the body. In addition to this the electromagnetic energy is applied locally to and gives strength to the branches of the pubic nerves and to the hypogastric plexus, thereby stimulating the muscles and muscular tissues to a complete condition for their action.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An appliance for assisting the male generative organ in the natural performance of its functions, consisting of a wholly-elastic loop and means to stretch it longitudinally to produce downward and rearward pressure upon the corpus cavernosum and congestion of its blood Vessels.
2. An appliance for assisting the male generative organ in the natural performance of its functions, consisting of an elastic loop, and a connection to a waist-belt, whereby the adjustment of said belt produces lengthwise and downward and rearward strain upon said loop to stretch it upon and over the corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum and produce congestion of the blood vessels therein.
3. An appliance for assisting the male generative organ in the natural performance of its functions, consisting of an elastic loop as rubber, an electric waist-belt, and a conducting connection between them whereby the corpus cavernosum is congested by the downward and rearward local pressure of said loop, and electric energy is supplied to the branches of the pubic nerves and to the hypogastric plexus, stimulating the muscles.
4. An appliance for assisting anatomical organs in the performance of their functions consisting of a belt adapt-ed to produce electrogalvanic energy, an elastic and longitudinally-yielding loop, and a connection between them, said connection being a conductor of said energy supplying it locally to parts adjacent to said loop by downward and rearward strain thereon.
5. An appliance for assisting anatomical JAMES DOTY.
