BUTTON-FASTENING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,588, dated August 9, 1898.
Application filedMarch 20, 1897- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. DUNN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Button-Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improved button-fastening device.
In thedrawings I have shown my invention as illustrated in a button, in which Figure 1 is an elevation View, and Fig. 2 is an inverted plan showing the shank of the button in section.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in both views.
Referring to said drawings in detail, A represents the head of the button; B, the shank; O, the securing device, and D the fabric to which the button is attached.
The fastening or securing device 0, as illustrated, consists of two U -shaped parts secured together, so as to turn relatively to each other about a pivot 0, each U-shaped part comprising arms 0 and c and having a cutout portion 0 adapted to fit the inner-surface of the shank B. The arms a are each provided with a projecting portion 0 forming finger-pieces. The mode of using the device will be apparent. said parts being adapted to be inserted in the opening of the shank so as to have their curved portions fitting therein and to have their ends extend in opposite directions, substantially as described.
2. A fastening for buttons or other securing devices which have a shank provided with an opening, composed of two U -shaped parts movably pivoted one upon the other and each providedwith a recess or cut-out in its curved portion," said recess or cut-out in each of the curved parts being adapted when the device is in locked position to be within the shank and engaging it, and to have their ends extending in opposite directions, substantially as described.
