UNITED 'STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
MEHIN E. BUYKOUTZ, OF LAMOILLE, ILLINOIS.
llnouemioa.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,508, dated August 2,' 1898. Application led February 6, 1897. Serial No. 622,275. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that l, MEHIN E. BUKoUTZ,a citizen of, the United States, residing at Lamoille, in -the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incubators; and I do herebyT declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the -art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in an incubator, and has for its object to provide an inexpensive vand durable device of this character in whichy the eggs can be conveniently turned.
The invention Yconsists inthe featuresof construction hereinafter described and specilically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, Figure 1 is a vertical section of an incubator constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a section taken at right angles to the same. Fig. 3 is a plan sectional view showing the eggtrays, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of said trays in detail.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates the casing of the incubator, which is provided at its lower portion with a lamp-chamber 2, having the door k3. `Said door isprovided with openings 4 V to admit air. At the upper end of the lamp-chamber 2 are the brackets 5, upon which the tank 6 is supported. The said tank is provided with the filling-nozzle 7 and the faucet 8 for drawing the water therefrom. Above the tank the said casing is provided with cross pieces or slats 9, form-v ing ledges upon which the egg-trays lO are placed. The side of the casing is provided with a door 11 opposite these slats for the purpose of looking into the casing, while behind this hinged door is a glass door 11 to prevent the entrance of cold air when examining the eggs. The eggltrays that are placed upon these ledges consist of two frames 12, that are hinged together and are provided with the screen 13 and the hooks 14, by means of which they can b e fastened when closed. It is un- .derstood that the eggs are placed between the position. For-the purpose of turning the said frames I employ a projection or pin 15, that is fastened at the rear edge of one of the frames and provided at one end with a handle 16, while the other end of the frame is provided with a pivot 17. This pivot 17 enters an opening in the side of the incubator, while the handle 16 extends through the back piece of the casing. In the construction illustrated I have shown three of these frames, and itisnoted, therefore, that there is always an open handle 16 is removably fastened onthe end of the projection or pin 15, whereby it can be removed to allow the frames to'be removed from the casing. I also employ a rod 18, that is connected with the handles 16 and by means of which all of said trays can be turned at one time.
In the foregoing description it is seen that an inexpensive incubator is provided and also one in which the frame can be turned for the purpose of turning the eggs without opening the incubator and prevents the entrance of cold air, which is injurious to the incubating eggs.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to'secure by Letters Patent, isV
1. lAn incubator consisting of a casing provided with a tank and .means for heating the same, a series of cross pieces or slats above the tank forming ledges, and a series of horizontally-disposed trays mounted on said ledges and consisting of two frames hinged together and pivotally mounted in said casing at opposite ends adjacent to one edge, the body of the casing Vbeing as much longer than the combined series of trays, as the width of one of said trays, whereby the said trays may be turned easily over to bring their opposite sides against the ledges, substantially as described.
2. An incubator, consisting of a casing provided with a tank and means for heating the same, a series of cross pieces or slats above the tank forming ledges, a series of trays disposed on said ledges and consisting of two flat frames hinged together and provided with screencoverin gs by means ofi'which they may be fastened when closed, one of the frames having pivots projecting from opposite ends IOO thereof near one edge, the said easing being as lnueh longer than the Combined series Of trays as the width 0f One Of said trays, :L himdle connected to One pivot Of eneh Of the trays, sind :L rod connected to the handles, by means of which :di of said trays may be turned simultaneously, substantially :Ls described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence Of two subscribing Witnesses.
MEIIIN E. BUKOUTZ.
