FRAME FOR FILTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 607,952, dated July 26, 1898. Application filed vecemberlz, 1897. $eria1 N... 660,522. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KAREL PROKS, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Prague-Karlin, Kingdom of Bohemia, Austria-Hungary, haveinvented certain new and useful improvements in the construction of filtering-frames of mechanical filters for the filtration of syrups and juices in sugar-works; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.
Heretofore filtering-frames were composed of corrugated or other plates or matwork,
' which has been inserted in a longitudinal slot in a tube which communicated with a collecting-gutter. Each frame has been covered with a filtering-cloth. The liquid (syrup) passes through the filtering-cloth into the grooves and channels of the inlaid plate or matwork, whence it is discharged through the said' tube into the gutter. In order to keep free the section of the said tube, I arrange its section with two longitudinal flanges or laps, one flange on each side of the said slot, be tween and onto which the said sheet or mat is to be inserted and fastened, leaving the section of the tube free. Such frames being trimmed in their lower edge and at the two sides or by an iron or other metallic border, this frame can also be covered on both sides with sieves, which consist of metallic perforated plates and are tightly screwed to said flanges. Thus no filtering-cloth will be needed.
The following description refers to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through the filtering-frame. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through X Xin Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clamping-bar and frame-tube. Fig. 4 is one end, Fig. 5 the other end, and Fig. 6 a cross-section, of the longitudinally-fianged tube. Fig. 7 shows the usual slotted tube with inserted corrugated plate or the like, by which arrangement its free section is obstructed.
The frame-tube Ais provided with two longitudinal flanges or laps a a, having a slot between them, into which an undulated corrugated or tube plate 19, Figs. 1 and 2, matwork, or the like is inserted and fastened. This plate must offer plenty of openings for the entrance of the filtered liquid besides plenty of points supporting the filtering cloth or sieve, to which it serves as basis. Such frames are covered with the filtering-cloth B or with filtering-sieves c. In the first case the filtering-cloth forms a sack or bag, which isslipped over the filtering-frame, so that the open ends of the sack overlap each other on the top of the tube A and are tightly held by means of an elastic iron bar D," of which one end is laid in a notch E of a ring fastened upon the tube, while the other end is fastened by a screw F or as convenient. .Fig.
.7 shows the usual way of fastening the said plates or the like into the tube A, its section being unnecessarily obstructed, while it is important for the filtration of syrups and juices to maintain the section of the tube A as free as possible.
I am aware that prior to myinvention filtering-frames have been made with inlaid corrugated or other plates and the like, which are trimmed with slotted tubes communicating with a collecting-gutter. I therefore do not claim such a combination, broadly; but
That I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination, in frames for filters having corrugated or other plates or matwork or the like with an open frame-tube A, the which is provided with two longitudinal flanges or laps a, a. which support the corrugated or other plates or matwork, so as to keep the section of the tube A free, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set'my hand in presence of two witnesses.
KAREL PROKS.
Witnesses EDWARD PORTSCH, ADOLPH FISCHER.
