COMBINED NAPKIN RING AND HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 605,487, dated June 14:, 1898.
Application filed February 5,1898. Serial No. 669,230. (No model.) 7
T0 aZZ whom it, may concern;
Be it known that I, GUSTAV KROKER, a citizen of Germany, and a resident of Ohligs, Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Napkin Ring and Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved napkin-rin g which can be readily converted into a clasp or holder for fastening the napkin to the clothes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of one formof my improved napkin-ring; Fig. 2, a plan thereof; Fig. 3, a plan of one-half of the ring, showing it converted into a clasp; Fig. 4, a side elevation of the ring, showing it in the state of being parted; Fig. 5, a plan of the parts 0 (1, showing them open; Fig. 6, a plan of a modification; Fig. 7, a plan of Fig. 6, showing it converted into a clasp; Fig. 8, a plan of a further modification; Fig. 9, a plan of Fig. 8, showing it converted into a clasp; and Fig. 10, a plan of a still further modification.
The napkin-holder is composed of four sec-. tions at Z) c d, of which the parts or jaws a b are connected by a hinge, and the jaws a d are connected by a second hinge, as shown. Hooks at the ends of the jaws are made to interlock, so that the two hinged sections may be connected by being slid one into the other, Fig. 4, to form a complete closed napkin-ring, Fig. 2.
The parts a c are provided with rearwardlyprojecting noses 6, adapted to be received by corresponding notches in the adjoining parts. When the ring is opened, each of its duplex sections a b or o dmay be folded to form a clasp or napkin-holder, Fig. 3, which is held in its closed position by spring f, secured to the notched jaw and bearing upon the nose e of the adjoining jaw.. In this position the I I clasp may be used for attaching the napkin to the collar, coat, waistcoat, duo.
In Figs. 6 and? the sections a b 0 cl are joined by three hinges and one hook-joint, so
In Figs. 8 and 9 the springs f are arranged on the inside of the jaws a b 0 (1 while spring 1, engaging nose 6 is arranged on the outside to form a square ring or a fiat clasp.
In Fig. 10 four hinge-joints are shown, so that the jaws a b 0 d having noses e .and springs f are permanently connected and can be manipulated to assume eithera round or elongated form.
What I claim is- 1. A napkin-ringcomposed of a number of jointed sections, rearwardly-extending noses on some of the sections, and springs adapted to engage said noses and secured to the ad joining sections, substantially as specified.
2. A napkin-ring composedof a number of sections connected by hinges and by hookshaped slip-joints, noses on some of the sections, and springs on the adjoining sections that are adapted to engage said noses, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at Dusseldorf, Germany, this 19th day of January, A. D. 1898.
V GUSTAV KROKER.
