TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FISHER, of Ripon, in the county of Fond du Lac, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Attachment to Bedsteads ;--and I do hereby'declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to an'improved attachment to bedsteads, for the purpose of firmly holding and retaining the bed clothes 'at the foot-board of the bedstead in position, whereby it is rendered impossible to so dislocate or disturb the bed clothes while a person is asleep in the bed as to expose his body to the cold,
during the winter or other cold months, while at the same time my improved attachment does'not interfere in the least with the making-up of the bed, but, on the contrary, facilitates the work, and renders it much easier and more readily accomplished. I
In accompanying plate of drawings, my improved attachment for bedsteads is illustrated Figure 1 being a plan or top view of the same.
Figure 2,an end view.
A, in the drawings, represents my improved attachment for bedsteads, that, when used, is to be applied to and along the foot-board or foot-rail 'of a bedstead, and in proper positionthereat to receive the bed clothes between its two jaws B, and firmly hold and retain them in their position, whether pulled with moreor less strength by the person or persons who may be sleeping in or occupying the bed, and thus preventing all possibility of the bodies of such persons being exposed while asleep, which, during the winter months especially, is a desideratum of the utmost importance and advantage and desirability. These jaws B consist of two bars or rails C, of suitable length to extend entirely or nearly so across the width of the bedstead, and are each secured in the-same line with each other, and so as to rest one upon the other when closed, to oneend of a series of similar lever-arms E, pivoted together in pairs at G, and provided with spiral springs H, for firmly-holding the said bars 0, secured to them closed; these lever-arms being arranged and connected together in pairs substantially similar to a well-known pin, now in common use forvsecuring' clothes to lines or cords on which they are hung out to dry, and therefore needing no further or more particular description herein to that above given. The number of the lover-arms E employed for the jaw-rails or bars may be more or less, according to the width of the bedstead to which my attachment is applied; but they should be of a sufficient number to ensure the perfect and firm retention and holding of the bed clothes between the two jaw-rails when inserted therein.
From the above description, it is plainly obvious that by my improved attachment for bedsteads the results and advantages herein stated as being obtained by it are, in the most complete, perfect, reliable, simple, cheap, and effective manner, secured. a
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The c imblnation with the spring lever-arms E, hinged and jointed together in pairs, of the jaw-rails or bars 0, connecting the several pairs of said levers, substantially as described for the purpose specified.
