Description
{Ng} Modem J. R. G. REEVES. THOUGH FOR WELL CURBS.
UNITED STATES PATENT EETCE.
JAMES ROBERT GRAVES REEVES, OE MCCOMB CITY, MISSISSIPPI.
TRO-UGH FOR WELL-CURBS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 603,344, dated May 3, 1898. Application led November 13, 1897. Serial lilo. 658,393. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES ROBERT GRAVES REEVES, a citizen of the United States, residingat McComb City, in the county of Pike and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Troughs to be Used on Well-Curbs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an attachment to be used on well-curbs.
It consists of a trough having the features hereinafter pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of the invention applied to a Well-curb. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal vertical section of Fig. 1, taken through the trough.
In the drawingsV the letter A represents a Well-curb to which the invention is to be attached. The Well-curb is shown provided with the usual apparatus for raising and lowering the bucket a. This bucket may be provided with a self-opening valve c. To the `front lip a2 of the curb the invention is to be The invention consists of a metallic trough B. This trough is made of tWo rods b, having downturned ends bvand upturned ends b2. The body of the troughA C is made of sheet metal and is secured to the rods b. The trough is made with a flare, the inner end c being closed and the outer end c being open. The ends b' of the rods b extend some distance beyond the end c of the trough (Land a lip c2 extends between such extendedportions of the rods b. The spacebetween the end c and the downturned portion of the ends b is the thickness of the lip a2 of the well-curb. A bar`D may be fastened across the top of the trough B, so as to strengthen it. .Projecting upwardly from the bottom B3 of the trough B isa vertical pin E, which is held to the bottom of the trough B by interior and exterior nuts e e'.
The trough B is used as shown in the drawings. The inner or\ closed end cis placed against the outside of the lip a2 of the Wellcurb. The lip c2 rests on top of the lip a2 of the well-curb, and the downturned ends b bear against the 'inner edge of the lip a2 of the Well-curb. This firmly holds the trough to the. Well-curb, and the lip c2 effectually prevents any Water from leaking down on the outside of the Well-curb and rotting the same. The bucket to be filled is hung by its bail over the hooked ends b2, as shown in the drawings. When a bucket with a self-open ing valve is used, such valve is opened by being pressed down upon the top of the vertical pin E.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. A well-curb attachment, consisting of the rods, b, having the downturned ends, b', and the'upturned ends, b2, and the sheetmetal body, C, secured to `such rods, as set forth.
2. A well-curb attachment, consisting of the rods, Z), having the downturned ends, b', and upturned ends, b2, the sheet-metal body, C, having one end open and the other closed and provided with a lip, c2, extending beyond the closed end, c, as set forth.
3. A well-curb attachment, consisting of the side rods, b, having the downturned ends, b', and upturned ends, b2, the sheet-metal body, C, and the vertical pin, E, projecting upwardly from the bottom of the body, C, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses. V
` JAMES ROBERT GRAVES REEVES.
Witnesses: T. L. VENABLE, P. H. WATKINS.
