To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUSTAVO M. FINOTTI, of Mission Hill, in the county of Yankton and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in cabinets for household usage; and it has for its object the production of a combination-cabinetwhich is specially designed for nursery purposes as an attendant convenience in dressing or undress ing infants, and also adapted to be used as an auxiliary in taking baths and supporting clothing, towels, and other toilet articles.

The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination-cabinet embodying the invention and showing the parts distended in full lines and folded in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device.

Referring to the drawings, wherein similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in both views, the numeral 1 designates opposite end pieces of substantially rectangular form at their lower portions and from a suitable elevation converge and extend upwardly to form reduced supports 2 at their upper ends. The lower edges of the central parts of the sides are cut away, as at 3, to provide an ornamental appearance, and at the opposite corners casters 4 of any preferred form are applied to render the device portable and permit it to be readily removed from one place to another. At a predetermined distance above the lower ends of the sides 1 and attached to the inner opposing surfaces thereof is a broad board 5, intended to be used as arest or table-top and extending inwardly across the width of the said ends, and below the same is mounted in suitable guides a drawer 6, provided with pulls or knobs 7, the said drawer being for the reception of articles of clothing, especially that class which belong to an infant. In the upper part of the converged portions of each of the sides 1 two oppositely-inclined slots 8 are formed and extend inwardly at their upper ends, and at a suitable point below the said slots 8 a vertical slot 9 is also formed in the said end and stands in a plane about midway between the slots 8.

The oppositely-extended projecting ends 10 of yoke -bars 11 movably engage the upper slots 8, and a centrally-located yoke-bar 12 has extended ends 13, movably fitted in the slots 9. The yoke-bars 11 and 12 comprise a portion of a rack consisting of a series of outer angularly-disposed supporting-bars 14, varying in length, and upon which rest other similar bars 15, and pivotally attached by rounded projecting ends 16 of rack-bars 17, so that all the parts will fold and be reduced to a compact form. There are four of the outer supporting-bars and a like number of similar bars resting thereagainst, making a total of eight at each end and connected by twelve rack-bars, including the yoke-bars 11 and 12. The supporting-bars 14: and 15 are thus arranged in two substantially parallel series at each end, pivotally connected together, the projecting ends 10 of the yokebars 11 being extended into the inclined slots 8, whilethe projecting ends 13 of the yokebar 12 are extended into the vertical slot 9. By means of this latter arrangement when said rack is graspedat one side the same may be folded or opened, as desired, the in clined or converging slots 8 causing the ends 10 of bars 11 to move toward or away from each other, as the case may be, resulting in a corresponding movement up or down of the end 13 of bar 12 in the slot 9. WVhen the rack is folded, the table or rest 5 is made accessible and more fully exposed, though it will be understood that when the rack is distended the lowermost level of the downwardly-projecting parts of the said rack is such as to permit articles to be placed upon or taken from the rest or table 5. The said rack is adapted to be used for supporting articles of clothing not only pertaining to infants, but also to persons taking a bath and using the ICO cabinet as a convenient auxiliary for the purpose.

Above the rack and between the upper reduced portions 2 of the ends 1 a drawer 17 is mounted,having a covering-strip 18 restin g thereover and held by the said reduced portions 2. Above the covering-strip 18, at a suitable distance, and also retained in position by thereduced portions 2, is a supporting-shelf 19, having a central opening 20, in which may be placed a nursing-bottle, the said opening being of elongated form and having on opposite sides thereof circular openings 21, through which suitable bottles or other devices may be placed, and when the nursing-bottle and other articles are inserted through the openings 20 or 21 the bottoms or covers rest on the covering-strip 18, thereby providing a stable rest for such articles and holding them in position when moving the cabinet as an entirety from one place to another. On one of the ends 1, at a proper elevation, a hinged leaf 22 is mounted and sup ported by a bracket 23, also hinged to the end 1 and of itself having an outer hinged section 24, and having the leaf 22 lie down close against the end when in dropped position. The hinges 25 of the leaf 22 are secured to supporting-blocks 26, and the upper portions of the bracket 23 and its hinged section 24 are recessed, as at 27, to fit under one of the blocks and lie in close adjustment therewith. This construction facilitates the lowering of the leaf 22, and the blocks 26 also form an inner strong support to resist the weight of articles placed upon the leaf 22. An upper smaller leaf 28 is hinged in connection with one of the reduced portions 2 of the end 1, to which the leaf 22 is attached, and is also supported, when in operative position, by the hinged bracket 29, having a similar recessed construction 30 in its upper edge and coacting with a supporting-block 31. On the opposite end 1 of the cabinet an arm 32 is movably supported on a cleat 33, arranged so that it can be turned down against the end when not in use.

The device as an entirety is to be constructed of any suitable wood or composition of wood and metal and ornamented to present a pleasing appearance. The upper drawer 17 is to receive small articles and materials used in dressing or nursing infants, and the table or rest 5 can be employed to support any receptacle or other article, as can also the leaves 22 and 28.

The device as an entirety is complete and convenient as an auxiliary for bathing purposes and as a support for clothing and other devices or attendant exercises used for this purpose.

The dimensions of the device can be varied at will, and it is obviously apparent that many minor'changes in the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts might be made and substituted for those shown and described without in the least departing from the nature or spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. The herein-described cabinet comprising end pieces each having upper converging slots and a lower vertical slot, and a folding rackbar having projecting portions extended into said slots, substantially as set forth.

2. The herein-described cabinet com prising end pieces each having upper inclined or converging slots and a lower vertical slot arranged in j u'xtaposition with said former slots, and a rack-bar having a series of pivotallyconnected end bars, and provided with upper and lower projections extended into said slots, substantially as set forth.

3. The herein-described cabinet, comprising end pieces each having upper inclined or converging slots and a lower vertical slot arranged in j uxtapositionwi th said former slots, and a rack bar made up of a series of pivotally-connected parallel end bars, and yokebars connecting said end bars and having proj ecting ends extended in to said slots, substantially as set forth.

4. The herein-described cabinet, comprising side pieces having upper converging slots and a lower vertical slot arranged in juxtaposition to said former slots, a folding rack-bar having projections extended into said slots,

upper and lower shelves mounted between said side pieces, drawers located beneath said shelves, an arm or support pivotally mounted on one of said'side pieces, and means for holding said arm in a horizontal position, substantially as set forth.

5. The combination with a cabinet, of a cleat secured to one side thereof, a shelf pivoted to said cleat, and a bracket pivotally secured to said side adjacent said cleat and formed of two pivoted members, said bracket having a cut-away portion adapted to receive said cleat,whereby said bracket may be folded flush against the side of said cabinet, substantially as set forth.
