SASH HOLDER.
No. 601,958. Patented'Apr. 5,1898.
. f d x n WITNESSES:
INVENTDH Adol #nnqken BY 0m ATTYS.
UNITED i STATES PATENT FFIGE SASH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,958, dated April 5, 1898.
Application filed June 15,1897. $erial1lo. 640,831. (No model.)
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My present invention relates to devices by means of which window sashes can be securely held in any desired position.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character above referred to of simple, strong, and durable construction, re-
-liable and efficient in operation, and easily attached to a window-frame.
The invention consists in the improved sashholder and in the combination and arrangements of the various parts thereof, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views, Figure 1 is an inside elevation, partly in section, of a portion of a window-frame and of the sashes arranged therein and provided with my improvement; Fig. 2, a front elevation of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 an enlarged longitudinal section of the sash-holder proper.
In said drawings, or represents a'windowframe, and b the lower sash, arranged in said frame in the usual and well-known manner. On the frame a and near the meeting-rail of said lower sash is fulcrumed on a screw or pin 0 the curved eccentrically-arranged block d, provided with a downwardly-extending projection e, and preferably made of hard rubber or of fibrous material, such as Wood.
The pin or screw c'penetrates the vertical hole (1,, arranged in a metallic sleeve f having integral therewith the radial arm or rib f, carrying at its other end the curved or segmental shaped flange f, arranged substantially parallel with the outer periphery of the block at and embedded therein. On the sides To reduce the friction and to thus render the holder more practical and efficient, wash ers h and g are arranged between the frame a and the block cl and between the latter and the head of the screw or pin, respectively.
The sash can be raised to any desired position Without being hindered by the eccentrically-arranged block (1; but the moment the sash is released and tends todescend by its own weight said block engages and binds against the said sash and holds the same firmly in the desired position. When the sash is to be closed, the block d is moved out of engagement by simply pressing against the projection e, as will be manifest.
A sash-holder of the construction hereto fore described, besides being efficient and durable, can be very cheaply manufactured, and is also neat in appearance, as the metallic anchor-shaped strengthening-rib also serves as an ornament for the (colored) eccentric block 01.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a window-frame and the sash arranged therein, of a curved block of fibrous material, pivotally and eccen-' trically arranged on the window-frame, the eccentric and curved portion of said block being normally beyond the'dead-center of r0- tation of said block and in frictional contact with the said'sash, and a metallic strengthening-rib in said block and embedded therein and in the radial line to its culminating-point and provided at its outer portion with a segmental-shaped flange also embedded in said block and adapted to strengthen that portion thereof which bears against the sash and to furnish additional weight thereto, substantially as described. I
2. The combination with a Window-frame and the sash arranged therein, of a curved block of fibrous material pivotally and eccentric-ally arranged on the frame and provided with a downwardly-extending projection, the curved and eccentric portion being normally beyond the dead-center of rotation of said block and in frictional contact with the sash, a metallic strengthening-rib embedded in said block and provided at its inner end With a sleeve penetrating said block and at its outer end with a segmental-shaped flange, said rib being arranged in the radial line to the culininating-point of the eccentric block,'and
and the sash arranged therein, of a curved block of fibrous material pivotally and eccentrically arranged on the frame and provided with a downwardly-extending projection, the
curved and eccentric portion of said block being normally beyond the dead-center of rotation of said block and in frictional contact with the sash, a metallic strengthening-rib in said block and in the radial line to its culminating-point and provided on its sides with a series of lugs or projections embedded in said block, asegmental-shaped flange 011 the outer end of said rib, and approximately parallel with the outer edge of said curved or eccentric portion of the block, and an axle-such as a screwpenetrating said sleeve and secured to the frame and serving as a fulcrum for the block, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described."
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of June, 1897.
I ADOLPI-I IIAENIOLIEN. Witnesses:
