SPECIFICATION.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
p Be it known that I, GRANVILLE HENRY, of Nazareth, in the county of Northampton, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fire-Arms; and I do hereby declare that the following,
is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which `will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. The present invention consists in so constructing or forming the lock-frame and breech-piece of a rifle or other firearm, that the whole stock to be secured to it can be made in one piece, whereby the construction of the stock and lock-frame and breech-piece is veryl much simplied, and at the same time its strength increased, and at a less expense than by the ordinary construction of the frame and stock of a fire-arm.
In accompanying plate of drawings, my improvement in tire-arms is illustrated:
Figure 14, being a top view of the stock, detached from the fire-arm.
Figure 2, a section through the stock taken in the direction of .its length, with the frame and barrel of the fire-arm in side elevation. i
A, in the drawings, representsthe barrel of the rire-arm, which at its breech end, B, is secured to the frame C, provided for the reception of the devices by which the gun is discharged. This frame, C, is of suihcient width to embrace nearly the entire width of the stock, D, but is made with a square shoulder E. It also has a tongue or extension-pieee`F, as in ordinary frames of fire-arms. The stock D is out out upon one side at G, in a square shape nearly across its entire width, but corresponding `in width to that of the frame C, and of a similar length to its main portion, so that when properly placed upon the said frame, it will t about and enclose the open side of the same, coming ,to a bearing by its shoulder'H, against the shoulder E, of the frame, from which shoulder extends the part I, of the stock forming the support ferrand coming under the barrel of the lire-arm the stock being also suitably cut away at L, to receive the tongue of the frame C. The whole stock, DI, .is made in one piece, and in connection with the frame, C, both produce a light, strong, and durable attachment for the stock to the frame C, as is obvious without any further explanation.
I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters PatentlIlhe stock D, made in one piece, and cut out -at G, in combination with the frame C, having a shoulder E,
substantially as and for the purpose described.
GRANVILLE HENRY.
