Application filed February 2, 1897 I thereof is to provide an improved machine of this class by means of which the teeth of a saw may be set and sharpened at the same operation.

My improved machine is adapted to be secured to a table, carpenters bench, or any other suitable support, and in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings I have shown at 20 a part of said support, and the frame of my machine consists of upright standards 21, which are provided at their lower ends with clamps 22, of the usual or any preferred form of construction, by means of which the frame is secured to the support, and the standards 21 are connected at their lower ends by a crossbar 23 and are provided with forwardly-directed and upwardly-curved arms 24, the upper ends of which are connected by a hub 25,

through which passes a shaft 26, and the hub 25 is also provided with backwardly and outwardly curved arms 27, which are connected at 28, as shown in Fig. 3, and through which passes a vertical shaft 29, 011 which is mounted a gear-wheel 30, which is provided on its outer side or at the perimeter thereof with a beveled gear 31 and on its upper side with a beveled gear 32, which extends about onethird of the distance around the wheel and the object of which will be hereinafter described.
Mounted on the shaft 26 is a beveled gearwheel 33, which operates in connection with a beveled gear 31 on the wheel 30, and the shaft 26 is also provided with a crank 34, by means of which the machine is operated.
The standards 21 are projected above the gear-wheel 30, as shown at 35, and are provided with a horizontalplate 36, and similar standards 37 are connected with the standards 21, at the bottom thereof, by means of arms 38, which extend backwardly from the bottom of the standards 21, and the said standards 37 are provided at their upper ends, which terminate approximately at a level with the gear-wheel 30, with a lever 39 of the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, said lever consisting of two curved arms which are brought together at the lower ends thereof, as shown at 40, and which are curved outwardly and upwardly and connected by a horizontal plate 41, which corresponds with the plate 36, and passing through the lower end of the lever 39 is a set-screw 42, which is adapted to bear on the cross-bar 23 at the bottom of the frame.
The plates 36 and 41 carry at their upper edges horizontal clamping-jaws 43, which are provided with longitudinal ribs 44, which fit into corresponding grooves formed in said plates, and these jaws 43 are designed to clamp and hold a saw 45, the handle of which is shown at 46 in Fig. 1 and the blade at 47 in Figs. 1 and 2, and the teeth of this saw are shown at 48 in Figs. 1 and 2.
The lever 39 is free to swing on its pivotal connections with the standards 37 at 49, and by means of the set-screw 42 the jaws '43 may be caused to securely clamp and hold the saw,
as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
The standards 21 are provided at their upper ends with forwardly-directed arms 50, one
of which is shown partly in dotted lines and partly in full lines in Fig. 3, and these arms carry a shaft 51, which is revoluble therein, and mounted on said shaft within the lefthand standard 21 is a beveled gear-wheel 52, which operates in connection with the beveled gear 32 on the upper surface of the wheel 30, and on the outer side of the arm 50, adjacent to which the beveled gear 52 is placed, I mount on the shaft 51 a quadrant 53, which is provided with an arm 54, in which is formed a longitudinal slot 55, through which passes a pin 56, which is supported by a bolt 57, which passes longitudinally through the end of the arm 54, in which the slot 55 is formed, and through said slot the pin 56is longitudinally adjustable on the bolt 57 and is provided with a head 58, this construction being best shown in Fig. 7, and mounted on said pin is a lever 59, which is also provided with a longitudinal slot 59, through which the pin 56 passes, and the lever 59, which is clearly shown in Figs. 1, 3, 5,11, 12, and 13, is connected with a camshaft 60, which is supported by arms 61, which are formed on or connected with the plate 36, and these arms also support shafts 62 and 63, which are arranged below the cam-shaft 60, and the shaft 63 is threaded at its inner end, as shown at 64, and the shaft 62 at its outer end, as shown at 65, and each shaft is provided with a knob or head 66, by which it may be turned when desired, this construction being best shown in Figs. 1, 3,11, 12, and 13, and the cam-shaft is provided at each end thereof and within the arms 61, by which it is supported, with cams 67 and 68, and adjacent to each of said cams 67 and 68 are other cams 69 and 70, and the lever 59 is connected with the shaft 60 between the cams 69 and 70.
The cams 67, 68, 69, and 70 are keyed to or rigidly connected with the shaft 60, and the arms 61, by which the shaft 60 is supported, are provided at their upper ends with triangular heads 71, by which the shafts 62 and 63 are supported, and the shaft 63 carries two pivoted levers 72 and 73, and the shaft 62 carries two similar levers 74 and 75, and the lever 72 is provided at its lower end with a backwardly-directed jaw 76, and the opposite lever 74 011 the shaft 62 is provided at its lower end with a head 77, through which a set-screw 78 passes, and the lever 73 on the shaft 63 is provided at its lower end with a similar set-screw 79, and the corresponding lever 75 on the shaft 62 is provided at its lower end with a jaw the same as the jaw 76 on the lever 72.
Mounted at the front of the machine and at the right of the gear-wheel 30 is a shaft 80, which is provided at its lower end with a pinion or gear-wheel 81, and the upper end of the shaft 80 is supported by an arm 82 and the lower end thereof by the support of the shaft 29 orin any suitable manner, and on the shaft 80 is mounted a yoke 83, which is shown in Figs. 1, 14, and 15, and this yokeis provided at its ends with upwardly-directed pins 84, and supported by saidyoke is a rectangular frame 85, through which the shaft 80 passes, and this frame is provided at each end with vertical bores or passages 86, as shown in full lines in Fig. 15 and in dotted lines in Fig. 14, and mounted on said frame 85 are the file- carriers 87 and 88, which are provided at their forward ends with downwardly-directed bearings 98, which extend through the ends of the frame 85 and which are provided at their lower ends with central bores 90, into which the pins 84 on the yoke 83 project.
The file- carriers 87 and 88 are adapted to swing on the frame 85, and the upper end of the shaft 80 is provided with a quadrantshaped plate or attachment 91, which is fastened thereto and which is provided with an arm or extension 92, to which are pivoted two arms or rods 93, this connection of the arms or rods 93 with the arm or extension 92 of said plate 91 being made by means of a screw or bolt 94.
The opposite ends of the arms 93 are each provided with a tubular head 95, through which passes a sleeve 96, which is mounted on a bolt 97, the upper end of which is provided with a thumb-nut 98, this construction being best shown in Fig. 14, and the lower end of the bolt 97 is provided with a head 99, and each of the file- carriers 87 and 88 is provided with a longitudinal opening a, and the top of said carriers is provided with longitudinal slots a at the opposite ends, and, by
means of this construction, the arms 93 are pivotally connected with the carriers 87 and 88, and said arms are adapted to swing the rear ends of said carriers laterally.
The carriers 87 and 88 or the. forms thereof are best shown in Fig. 14, and the bearings 89 are provided with bands or heads a through which the forward ends of said carriers pass, and the rear ends thereof are provided with extensions a and mounted in the forward end of each of said carriers is a block a which is provided with an upwardly-directed pin a", which passes through the top or upper portion of the carrier, and mounted on said pin is a spring a and the files a one of which is mounted in each carrier, are pro vided at their forward ends with cylindrical bearings a", which pass through the blocks a and mounted in each of the carriers, near the rear end thereof, is a tubular hearing I), and the rear ends of the files pass into these bearings and are adapted to be held therein by pawls 17 which are pivoted at b and which project into the tubular bearings 19 and are held in proper position by racks 19 Above the tubular bearings Z) are secured blocks 1), and the tubular bearings Z) areadapted to turn in their supports, and each is provided with a lever b, which is provided with a set-screw 11 which moves in slots 19 formed in the blocks 1), and by means of these levers the tubular bearing 1) may be turned so as to adjust the files as desired, and
the blocks 1) are provided with springs Z), by which they are pressed onto the tubular bearings b.
I also provide devices for feeding the saw forwardlybetween the jaws 42 as the machine operates, and these devices consist of a rod (1, which is mounted in bearings d which are secured to the upper side of the plate 36, and this rod d is provided at each end with a pawl 61 which are adapted to operate in connection with the teeth of the saw, and formed on the upper end of the shaft 29 is a tooth d, which is adapted to operate a lever d which is provided with a longitudinal slot d this construction being best shown in Figs. 8 and 10, in which is mounted a sliding block d through which passes a pin d which is secured to or formed on a block (1 which is mounted on a screw-threaded shaft g, which passes through an oblong block 9 in which is formed a longitudinal slot 9 and the block 9 is secured to the plate 36 of the frame, and the shaft 9 is provided at its front end with a knob or head 9 by which it may be operated, so as to adjust the block cl", and the lever d is provided at its front end with an arm 9 which is curved inwardly in the direction of the shaft 29, on which the tooth d is formed, and the rear end of said lever is provided with a slot g", through which passes a pin g which is secured to the rod 01. The block 9 is also provided on one side thereof with a cam-disk g which is adapted to operate in connection with a longitudinal flange 9 formed on the outer side of the lever C1 and the cam-disk g is provided with an arm h, by which it is operated, and by manipulating this cam-disk by means of said arm the forward end of the lever (1 may be thrown upwardly, so that the arm g thereof will not be operated by the tooth d on the shaft 29, this construction being best shown in Fig. 9.
1 also provide a device for throwing the rod or bar cl backwardly each time that it is fed forwardly by the lever d and this device consists of a spring 713, (reference being made to Fig. 5,) which is secured to the plate 36 of the frame and which operates in connection with a pin 72, secured to said rod or bar d, and each time that the rod or bar at is fed forwardly by the lever d the spring 7L2 will throw it back into position, so that the pawls 61 which are pivotally connected with the ends of the rod d, will engage with successive teeth on the saw.
The gear-wheel or pinion 81 on the lower end of the shaft 80 is provided with a cam m, which operates in connection with a cam-head m on the support of said shaft, and the shaft 80 is vertically movable by reason of this cam and cam-head, and the operation of the ma chine will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the fola lowing statement thereof.
The machineis operated by turning the crank 34,and this operation revolves the wheel 30, as will be readily understood, and the shaft 80 is continually revolved by means of the pinion or gear-wheel S1 and is also given an up-and-down motion by means of the cam m i and the cam-head m the downward motion being occasioned by gravity or any suitable means. In this operation the plate or attachment 91 and the arm or extension thereof revolve with the shaft 80, and the file- carriers 87 and 88 slide in the heads a the sides of the carriers being provided with flanges O, as shown in Fig. 15, which move in correspond ing grooves in the head (i and in the backward movement of said carriers they are raised by the cam m, so as to be disengaged from the teeth of the saw, and at the end of the backward movement they are brought into contact with said teeth, and the rear ends of the carriers maybe set laterally, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5, by means of setscrews P, which are shown in Fig. 1 and which press upon the bearing 89, with which the heads a are connected, the object of this arrangement being to provide means for adj usting the carriers to the position of the teeth of the saw.
The operation of setting the teeth is accomplished by means of the construction hereinbefore described and as shown in Figs. 1, 11, 12, and 13, and these devices are operated by the gear-wheel 52 on the shaft 51, said gearwheel being operated by the segmental gear 32 on the wheel 30. In the revolution of the shaft 51 the head of the quadrant '53 and the arm 54 thereof are turned with said shaft, and this operates the lever 59, and said lever 50 operates the setting- levers 72 and 73 on the shaft 63 and the setting- levers 74 and 75 on the shaft 62, this operation of said setting-levers being effected by the earns 67, 68, 09, and on the shaft 60, with which the lever 59 is connected. The lower ends of the levers 72 and are provided, as hereinbefore described, with jaws 7 6,which operate at the base of the teeth on one side of the saw,and the lower ends of the levers 73 and 74 are provided with setscrews 7 8, which operate in connection with the points of the teeth on the opposite side of the saw, and these set-screws, as will be understood, may be so set as to give the teeth of the saw an y desired inclination, and at each operation of the lever 59 or at each double movement thereof the levers 72 and 74 at one end of the shaft 60 operate on a tooth and set it in the proper direction, and at the next full movement of said lever 59 said levers 72 and 74 skip a tooth and operate on the alternate tooth, and as the saw is carried along the levers 7 3 and 75 at the opposite end of the shaft 60 operate on the teeth which are skipped by the levers 72 and 74 and set them in the op posite direction. This operation is accomplished by means, as hereinbefore described, of the cams 67, 68, 69, and 70, the cams 67 and 69 operating in connection with the levers 73 and 75 and the cams 68 and 70 operating in connection with the levers 72 and 74.
As the filing devices and the setting devices are operated in the manner described the saw is moved longitudinally thereof and longitudinally of the plates 36 and 41 by means of the jaws 43, between which it is held and by which it is carried, and by means of the feeding devices hereinbefore described, which consist of the lever d the rod d, and the parts connected with said lever. This operation is accomplished by means of the shaft 29, the tooth 61*, and the arm 9 of said lever, and as the shaft 29 revolves the lever d is operated, so as to move the rod d to the right, in which operation the pawls d engage with the teeth of the saw and carry it to the right each time that the shaft 29 revolves, this operation being accomplished by the tooth 61 which operates in connection with the arm g of the lever (1 and each time that the teeth 01 pass the arm g the spring 71 throws the rod 01 to the left and the pawls d engage with other teeth of the saw. I
My improved saw setting and filing apparatus is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its ad vantages. I
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a machine for filing and setting saws, the combination with a suitable frame pro vided with parallel plates, one of which' is adjustable, and longitudinallymovable, of jaws mounted between said plates which are adapted to carry the saw, a main gear-wheel and means for operating the same, a vertically-movable shaft provided with a pinion or gear-wheel which is operated by the main gear-wheel, a yoke mounted on said shaft, a frame mounted on said yoke, through which said shaft passes, pivoted heads mounted on said frame, and longitudinally-movable filecarriers mounted in said heads, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a machine for filing and setting saws, the combination with a suitable frame provided with parallel plates, one of which is adjustable, of longitudinally movable jaws mounted between said plates which are adapted to carry the saw, a main gear-wheel and means for operating the same, a t erticallymovable shaft provided with a pinion or gear wheel which is operated by the main gearwheel, a yoke mounted on said shaft, a frame mounted on saidyoke, through which said shaft passes, pivoted heads mounted on said frame, longitudinally-movable file-carriers mounted in said heads, a plate or attachment connected with the upper end of said vertically-movable shaft, and provided with an arm or extension, and rods connected with said arm or extension and with said file-carriers, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a machine for filing and setting saws, the combination with a suitable frame provided with parallel plates, one of which is adj ustable, and longitudinally movable jaws mounted between said plates which are adapted to carry the saw, a main gear-wheel and means for operating the same, a verticallymovable shaft provided with a pinion or gear wheel which is operated by the main gearwheel, a yoke mounted on said shaft, a frame mounted on said yoke, through which said shaft passes, pivoted heads mounted on said frame, longitudinally movable file carriers mounted in said heads, a plate connected with the upper end of said vertically movable shaft, and provided with an arm, rods connected with the arm of said plate and with said file carriers, and said longitudinallymovable file-carriers being also provided with adjustable and longitudinally-movable supports for the files, substantially as shown and described.
4:. A machine for sharpening and setting saws, consisting of a suitable frame provided with parallel plates, one of which is movable, longitudinally movable jaws mounted between said plates and operating as a saw-carrier,a main gear-wheel mounted in said frame, a vertically-movable shaft mounted in said frame, provided with a pinion which is operated by said main gear-wheel, said verticallymovable shaft being provided with a frame with which are pivotally connected file-carriers, said frame being provided with pivoted heads through which said file-carriers are passed, devices connected with said vertically-movable shaft for moving said file-carriers longitudinally of said heads, and other devices connected with said main gear-wheel for moving the saw-carrier longitudinally of said plates, said first-named frame being also provided with devices which are in operative connection with said main gear-wheel, and which are adapted to set the teeth of the saw, substantially as shown and described.
5. In a machine for setting and sharpening the teeth of a saw, the combination with a suitable frame which is provided with a main gear-wheel, and means for operating the same, and with a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier, of setting devices connected with said frame, and consisting of a shaft with which a lever is connected, said lever being in operative connection with the main gear-wheel, two other shafts mounted below and at each side of the shaft with which said lever is connected, and longitudinally of the saw-carrier, two sets of setting-levers connected with said last-named shafts, and cams mounted on the shaft with which said lever is connected, and by which said setting-levers are operated, substantially as shown and described.
6. A machine for setting and sharpening the teeth of a saw, said machine consisting of a suitable frame which is provided with a main gear-wheel, and means for operating the same, and with alongitudinally-movable saw-carrier, setting devices connected with said frame, and consisting of a shaft with which a leveris connected, said lever being in operative connection with the main gearwheel, two other shafts mounted below and at each side of the shaft'with which said lever is connected, and longitudinally of the saw-carrier, two sets of setting-levers connected with said last-named shafts, and cams mounted on the shaft with which the lever is connected, and by which said setting-levers are operated, said frame being also provided with devices which are in operative connection with the main gear-wheel for moving the saw-carrier longitudinally, and for sharpening the teeth of the saw, substantially as shown and described.
7. In a machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, the combination with a frame, which is adapted to be secured to a support, and which is provided with a main gear-wheel, and means for operating the same, and a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier, of means for operating said carrier when the saw is held therein, said means consisting of a box or casing which is secured to the frame, a screw-threaded shaft passing through said box or casing,a block mounted thereon, a lever which is mounted on a pin connected with said block, a longitudinally-movable rod mounted on the frame, and provided with pawls which are adapted to operate in connection with the teeth of the saw, and a spring which operates in connection with said rod, said spring and said lever being adapted to move said rod in opposite directions, and said lever being in operative connection with the shaft of the main drivewheel, substantially as shown and described.
8. In a machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, the combination with a frame, which is adapted to be secured to a support, and which is provided with a main gear-wheel, and means for operating the same, and a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier, of means for operating said carrier when the .saw is held therein, said means consisting of a box or casing which is secured to the frame, a screw-threaded shaft passing through said box or casing, a block mounted thereon, alever which is mounted on a pin connected with said block, a longitudinally movable rod mounted on the frame, and provided with pawls which are adapted to operate in connection with theieeth of the saw, a spring which also operates in connection with said rod, said spring and said lever beingadapted to move said rod in opposite directions, and said leverbeing in operative connection with the shaft of the main drive-wheel, and said frame being also provided with devices for setting the teeth of the saw, and with means for filing the same, substantially as shown and described.
9. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, consisting of a frame which is adapted to be connected with a table or other support, a main drive-wheel mounted therein, and provided with means for operating the same, said main gear-wheel being also provided on its upper side with a segmental beveled gear, a horizontal shaft mounted above said main gear-wheel, and provided with a beveled gear-wheel which is adapted to operate in connection with said segmental beveled gear, devices in operative connection with said horizontal shaft for setting the teeth of the saw, a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier mounted in said frame, and provided with devices for moving the same which are in operative connection with the shaft of the main gear-wheel, a vertically-movable shaft mounted adjacent to said main gear-wheel and adapted to be operated thereby, a frame mounted on said vertically-movable shaft, supports or heads mounted on said frame, and adapted to swing thereon, longitudinallymovable filecarriers mounted in said supports or heads, and devices connected with said ver tically-movable shaft for operating said longitudinally-movable file-carriers, substantially as shown and described.
10. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, consisting of a frame, a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier mounted therein, amain gear-wheel mounted horizontally in said frame, and provided with. means for operating the same, said main gear-wheel being also provided on its upper surface with a segmental beveled gear, a horizontal shaft mounted above said main gear-wheel, and provided with a beveled gear-wheel which operates in connection with the segmental gear formed thereon, teethsetting devices connected with said frame, a quadrant connected with said horizontal shaft, and provided with a slotted arm, and a slotted bar or lever connected with the arm of said quadrant and with said teeth-settin g devices, substantially as shown and described.
11. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, consisting of a frame, a
longitudinally-movable saw carrier mounted therein, a main gear-wheel mounted horizontally in said frame, and provided with means for operating the same, said main gear-wheel being also provided on its upper surface with a segmental beveled gear, a horizontal shaft mounted above said main gear-wheel, and provided with a beveled gear-wheel which operates in connection with the segmental gear formed thereon, teeth -setting devices connected with said frame, a quadrant connected with said horizontal shaft, and provided with a slotted arm, and a slotted bar or lever connected with the arm of said quadrant and with said teeth-setting devices, said frame being also provided with devices for operat ing the saw-carrier which are in operative connection with the shaft of the main gearwheel, and with file-carriers which are in op- IIO erative connection with said main gear-wheel, substantially as shown and described.
12. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, said machine being provided with a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier, file-carriers which operate transversely thereof, and teeth-setting devices consisting of a cam-shaft as 60, a lever as 59, connected therewith, cams connected with said camshaft, and two sets of levers as 72, and 74, said levers 72, and '74:, being supported by parallel shafts mounted below said cam-shaf t, substantially as shown and described.
13. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, said machine being provided with a longitudinally-movable saw-carrier, and devices for operating said saw-carrier, consisting of a main gear-wheel which is mounted on a vertical shaft, said shaft being provided with a lug or projection, a longitudinally-movable rod mounted adjacent to said saw-carrier, a lever connected with said rod, and adapted to be operated by said lug or projection, and devices connected with said longitudinally-movable rod which are adapted to engage with the teeth of the saw, substantially as shown and described.
14. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, consisting of a frame which is provided with a stationary and a movable plate, longitudinally-movable jaws mounted between said plates, and constituting the sawcarrier, a main drive-wheel mounted horizontally in said frame, and provided with means for operating the same, said main drive-wheel being provided with a segmental beveled gear on the upper side thereof, a horizontal shaft mounted above said main gear-wheel, a beveled gear-Wheel mounted in said shaft and operating in connection with said segmental gear, teeth-setting devices connected With and operated by said horizontal shaft, a longitudinally-movable rod mounted adjacent to said saw-carrier, and provided with devices which are adapted to engage with the teeth of the saw, so as to move the saw-carrier longitudinally, a lever connected with said rod and in operati veconnection with the shaft of the main gear-wheel, and a vertically-movable shaft which is adapted to be operated by said main gear-wheel, said vertically-movable shaft being provided with a support with which are pivotally connected longitudinallymovable file-carriers which are adaptedto be moved transversely of the saw-carrier, and said vertical shaft being also provided with devices for operating said file-carriers, substantially as shown and described.
15. A machine for the purpose herein described, said machine comprising a frame, a vertically-movable shaft,and operative mechanism connected therewith, aframe mounted on said shaft, supports or heads pivotally mounted on said frame, longitudinally-movable file-carriers mounted in said supports or heads, a plate connected with the upper end of said vertically-movable shaft and provided with an extension, two arms or rods pivotally connected with said extension and with said file-carriers, said file-carriers being also provided at the end thereof adjacent to said supports with a bearing adapted to receive one end of the file, and at the opposite end with an adjustable tubular bearing, said tubular bearin g being adapted to receive the opposite ends of the files, and being provided with looking devices, substantially as shown and described.
16. A machine of the class herein specified, com prisinga suitable frame, a longitudinallymovable sawcarrier, teeth filing devices, and means for operating the same, and teethsetting devices and means for operating the same, and devices for operating the saw-carrier consisting of a longitudinally-movable rod, a slotted lever connected therewith, a support for said lever, a longitudinally movable and adjustable block mounted in said support, and projecting through the slot in said lever, devices connected with said longitudinally-movable rod for engaging the teeth of the saw, devices operating said lever so as to move said rod in one direction, and aspring for moving said rod in the opposite direction, substantially as shown and described.
17. A machine for sharpening and setting the teeth of a saw, consisting of a suitable frame, a main drive-wheel mounted in said frame, and provided with means for operating the same, a longitudinally-movable sawcarrier consisting of separate jaws Which are adapted to clamp the saw, avertically-movable shaft mounted adjacent to said drivewheel and adapted to be operated thereby, a
frame mounted on said vertically-movable shaft, file-carriers pivotally connected with said frame and adapted to move transversely of the saw-carrier, devices connected with said vertically-movable shaft for operating said file-carriers, and devices connected with the main gear-Wheel for setting the teeth of the saw, and means for operating the saw-carrier, substantially as shown and described.
