SPECIFICATION- TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that we, JAMES C. McLELLANn and JAMES GRAHAM, of Pittsburg Alleghany county, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful improvement in Broom Head; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and. use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- A Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of our improved broom head, taken through the line :i z, fig. 3.

Our invention consists in forming the lower side edges of the broom-head cap double, and in the combination of the interior ring with the broom head and handle, as hereinafter more fully described.

A is the cap of the broom head, the top a' of which is a circular disk having a hole through its centre, for the passage of the handle B, and ,the edge of which is secured to the upper edge of the tapering band a a is a short tube or ferule, passingthrough the hole in the centre of the disk at, and firmly secured to. the said .disk, to support the handle B, and prevent-its being worn by the sharp edge of the disk 41 If desired, the1 disk a, instead of being made circular, may be made oval. The lower side edges of the band a are made double, by cutting the strip from which the said band is made with projecting shoulders, and then turning the said projecting shoulders over upon the sides of the said band, as shown in fig. 2, for the purpose of stiffening the said I edges and enabling them to grasp the corn more tightly when drawn together by the bolt G and nut D; E are arms, soldered or otherwise securely attached to the lower edge of the cap A at the edges of the broom head, the lower ends of which extend down to the place about which the binding wire F passes, andhave two holes formed in them, for the passage of said binding wire, as shown -in figs. 1, 2, and 3. The binding wire F, is passed through the holes in the lower end at the arms E, and its ends are soldered or otherwise securely attached to each other, so as to form a binding-wire ring. After the corn has been applied, the binding wire F is secured to it by the staples G, which are passed around one side of said wire, forced through the corn, and their ends are bent down around the other side of the said wire F. The handle B is made with an enlargement or ring, 6, formed around its lower part, as shown in figs. 1 and 2. C is a screw bolt, which passes through the' sides,

of the cap A, through the corn, and through'the end of the handle B. D is a nut, which, when screwed upon the bolt 0, draws the side edges of the cap A together, clamping the corn between them. H is a ring, passing I around the lower end of the handle B, between the projection b and the screw-bolt G, to. confine and closely pack the buts of the central portion of the corn, so that more corn can be placedwithin the cap A than could be done without the use of said ring. In forming the broom head the ring His removed and filled'with corn, the tapering end of the handle is then forced into it, and handle, ring, and corn inserted in thefcap A. The space between the ring H and the cap A all around is then filled with corn, the bolt is passed through and the nut D screwed down,clamping the corn between the edges of the cap A; the staples G are then applied, as before described, and the formation of the broom is completed. 1| 7 i We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A 1.
