SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 599,57-1, dated February 22, 1898. Application filed January 1l, 1897. Serial No. 618,853. (No model.) v
To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, DAvID LIPPY, a citizen I of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in
` meat-sawin g machines; and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a power-machine of the class known as swinging circular saws, for slicing meat to be used in meatmarkets and for other purposes; second, to so arrange the swinging' saw that it can be moved any required distance without changing its relative position to the platform; third, to make a cheap, durable, and efficient means for the purpose stated. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
This application is one of a series filed by me of even date herewith for improvements in meat-sawing machines and bearing, respectively, the Serial Nos. 618, 851 and 618,852.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved swinging circular saw and mode of operating the same, and also showing the frame in section for supporting the table carrying the separate adjustable platforms. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the frame, showing the table provided with the separate platforms; 4and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the swinging sawarm carrying the circular saw.
In the drawings, A indicates the frame of the machine; B, the table, on which are mounted the sliding platforms. C and D are brackets or hangers attached to the ceiling of the room; E, a shaft journaled in the hangers; F and F', loose and tight pulleys mounted on the shaft. M is a grooved pulley also mounted on the shaft.' g
G is a swinging arm composed of two bars H I-I, the said bars being connected at their lower ends, the upper ends being bent outwardly and then parallel with each other, and each is provided with an eye through which passes the shaft E. The swinging arm has attached to one of its sides, near the lower end, a handle, and at its extreme lower end it is provided with the shaft Q, on which two laterally-extending arms P P are journaled. A pulley R is also placed upon the said shaft between the vertical bars H2 and H3. There is also a pulley S placed upon a suitable shaft above the pulley R. A sawmandrel T, pulley U, and circular saw V are journaled in the loose ends of the horizontal arms P. The said arms are also provided with thedownwardly-projecting bar W. The said bar is bifurcated at its lower end and provided with a grooved roller X to guide the saw and .carry the same parallel with the top of the table Y. One belt Z conveys motion to the circular saw fromV the counter-shaft E by the belt passing around the pulleys M and U and upon the under side of the tightenerpulleys R and S.
The top of the table A2 is provided with any number of grooves B2, and in which are placed the adjustable platforms G2. Each platform is provided with a roller D2, the said rollers provided with pointed spikes E2, and a meat-clamping device composed of a lever having a vertical arm F2 and horizontal arm G2, also a vertical notched lever I2. The said levers are hinged one upon each side of the platform'and are for the purpose of holding the meat firmly in position when the saw is in the act of cutting the same. A raised guide J 2 is secured upon the edge of the table in a line with the center of the swinging arm, and lupon the same operates the roller X.
It will be readily seen by those skilled in the art that when motion is conveyed to the counter-shaft E by any suitable motor power that motion is conveyed to the circular saw V bythe belt connection Z. Each one of the adjustable platforms l, 2, 3, and 4 can be brought in line with the saw at the will of the operator and the others moved out of line, so that only one kind of meat is in line with the saw. The operator grasps the handle R2, forcing the saw through the joint of meat to be sliced. Dierent joints or kinds of meat can be placed upon the different platforms, obvi- IOO ating the necessity of removing the joints of meat if the customer should require a different kind.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a meat-sawing machine, the combination of a frame supporting a table carrying sliding platforms, each platform provided with a roller, a meat-clamping device located on each side of the sliding platform, a swinging arm comprising two bars joined together at their lower ends, a pulley journaled in said lower ends, the upper ends of the bars being journaled on the shaft supported by brackets extending from the ceiling, a loose and tight pulley and a grooved pulley also journaled on the shaft attached to the ceiling, a guide-pulley journaled between the bars of the swinging arm just above the pulley in the lower end thereof, a horizontal arm attached to the lower' end of the swinging arm, and comprising two parallel bars in the outer free ends of which is mounted a shaft on which is journaled a pulley and to which shaft is attached a circular saw, a downwardly-proj ectin g arm attached to or forming part of the free end of the horizontal arm and bifurcated at its lower or free end, a roller journaled in the bifurcated arm, a raised guide secured to the edge of the table upon which the roller in the bifurcated arm runs, a belt extending from the saw-carrying shaft to the shaft suspended from the ceiling, and means for revolving the said last-inentioned shaft and thereby the saw.
2. In a meat-sawing machine, the combination of the frame, a table mounted thereon, sliding platforms mounted on said table, clamping mechanism carried by the platforms at one end thereof, a support secured to the ceiling above the table, a swinging arm secured in said support, a right-angled arm swingingly secured at the lower end of said swinging arm, a revoluble saw journaled in the angle of the right-angled arm, a guideroller journaled in the other end of said rightangled arm and adapted to slide on the top of the table, and pulleys j ournaled in the support, swinging arm, right-angled arm and to the saw and having belts adapted to rotate said pulleys and saw.
3. In a meat-sawing machine, the combination of a frame, a table mounted thereon, a support mounted on the ceiling above the table and carrying a shaft, driving mechanism mounted upon said shaft, a swinging arm suspended from said support on its shaft, a rightangled arm swingingly journaled at the lower end of said swinging arm, a circular saw j ournaled on a shaft at the angle of said right-angled arm, a handle secured on one face of the swinging arm, platforms sliding in grooves in the upper face of the table, a roller journaled in each platform and means for holding the meat on the roller, means for rotating the saw connected to said driving mechanism, and a guide-roller journaled at the lower end of the right-angled arm to guide the saw and hold it in a straight line.
4. In a meat-sawing machine, the combination of a frame, supporting a table carrying sliding platforms, a swinging arm suspended from above the table, a right-angled arm journaled on the shaft located in the lower end of the swinging arm, a shaft located in the angle of the right-angled arm, a pulley journaled upon said shaft and a circular saw also attached to the same shaft, platforms sliding in grooves in the upper face of the table, a roller j ournaled in each platform, and means for holding the meat on the roller also secured to the sliding platform, and means for revolving the saw to saw the meat.
