SPECIFICATION.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN: l
Be it known that I, N. L. ROBERTSON, of Rockford, Winnebago county, Illinois, have invented a new andY improved Sifting Apparatus; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference markedv thereon.
The drawing represents a' longitudinal vertical section. A representsa rectangular box of any desired size, having a cover, A*, litted to it.` Transversely of this box are arranged two rollers, D, as shown, and on these a sieve, C, rests loosely; a rod, H, serving to connect this sieve with a lever, F, fulcrumed to the arm, G, outside of the box, as shown. An inclined hopper, B, is placed loosely i n the upper part of the box A, its lower edge coming in close proximity to the upper surface of the sieve, but not resting on it. This hopper, B, rests upon cleatse, secured to the inner sides of the box at the proper height to support the hopper clear of theA sieve. This hopper, being placed thus loosely in the box, can be removed at pleasure for the purpose of removing the sieve C and replacing it with a finer or coarser one, as may be desired, to adapt the apparatus to the varying uses for which it is intended. An' opening, K, is formed in the bottom of the box, and a sliding lid, E, applied, as shown, for the purpose of removing the sifted material from the box. This apparatus, thus constructed, may be used for all the ordinary lfamily purposes of a sieve, and it is also well adapted for the use of druggists in sifting herbs and similar articles, the facility with which the sieve can be changed to suit di`erentV kinds of material rendering it specially useful. The inclined pieces, a, are placed iu the lower portion of the box for the purpose of preventing they material from lodging in the corners, and to facilitate its` removal from the'box. If preferred, the sides of the box may be made inclined, or, if of small size, the `entire bottom may be made to open, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, is
The sifting apparatus, consisting of` the box A, provided with the sieve C, resting on the rollers D, and the removable hopper B, all arranged to operate as herein shown and described.
