Description

(No Mode-1.)
W. H. 00E. DEVICE FOR APPLYING METALLIC LEAP.
No 599,140! Patented Feb. 15,1898.
A N-ITED STATES IVALIER H. ODE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DEVICE FOR APPLYING METALLIC LEAF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 599,140, dated February 15, 1898.
Application filed July 20, 1897.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER H. 00E, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in De vices for Applying Metallic Leaf, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a conveniently-operated device for drawing the metallicleaf and its supporting paper strip from the spirally-wound package-roll and depositing the leaf upon the surface to be ornamented and my invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of the several parts of the device, as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved device for applying metallic leaf for decorating purposes. Fig. 2 represents a top view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a detail side view showing the adjustable side of the device turned backward for access to the packageroll and delivering-roller. Fig. 4 represents a detail side view, as in Fig. 3, with the package-roll and delivering-roller removed. Fig. 5 represents a detail top View with the package-roll and delivering-roller removed.
In the drawings, A represents the handle, and B an offset metal bar held in the handle and provided at the inner offset side with the parallel projecting pins a, b, and c. To the inner side of the offset-bar is also attached the plate 0, which forms one of the sides for the protection of the package-roll D and the delivering-roller E. The opposite adjustable side F is pivotally held for turning movement upon the pin a and adapted for tightening thereon in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 by means of the thumb-screw d. The adjustable side F is provided with a curved slot- Serial No. 645,277. (No model.)
opening 6, adapted to receive the bearing-pin b, upon which the package-roll D is placed for rotation, and with the notch f, adapted to embrace the bearing-pin c of the deliveringroller E. A friction-spring g is arranged at side 0 for the purpose of providingasufficient degree of friction between the side of the paclc age-roll D and the side F to prevent the package-roll from rotating too freely upon its bearing-pin b.
The package-roll D, employed for decorating purposes, is made of various widths, and in changing from one width to another the adjustable side F is to be loosened and turned back, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The package-roll and delivering-roller may then be removed from their respective bearing-pins b and c and a package-roll and delivering-roller of the proper width inserted upon the bearing-pins b and c in their stead. The side F may then be brought down to its former position and there secured by means of the thumb-screw d. Then upon passing the delivering-roller over the surface G to be decorated the paper strip 11 and the accompanying metallic leaf j will be drawn from the package-roll D and the metallic leaf will be deposited upon the surface G from the paper strip 1..
I claim as my invention- In a device for applying metallic leaf, the combination of the handle and the parallel bearing-pins, with the package-roll and the delivering-roller held upon the bearing-pins, and the side adapted for lateral adjustment upon one of the pins, substantially as described.
