NON-REFILLABIIE BOTTLE.

Be it known that I,JAMEs A. HoLMAN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Salida, in

. the county of Ohaflee and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Im-.

provements in Non-Refillable Bottles and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.'

My invention has relation to bottles for containing proprietary articles and the like; and the object is to provide a bottle of this class that will necessitate the mutilation of the upper portion of the neck in order to extract its contents, and consequently render it worthless for refilling.

To this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of a bottle embodying my invention with a portion of the neck and the stopple shown in section.-

Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the broken line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

' 1 represents the body of the bottle, and 2 the lower portion of the neck. The upper part 3 of the neck is formed integral with the lower part, and between the two is a circumferential V-shaped groove 4, leaving the upper and lower portions connected bya thin web.

5 represents a radial recess having a horizontal shoulder 6 formed in one side of the neck portion 3, and 7 represents a beveled recess formedin the mouth of the neck 3, which receives the integral lug 8 of the stopple 9. This stopple is formed with a recess 10, in

Y which is secured by a pin 12 the V-shaped spring 13, the free end 14. of which engages with the shoulder 6 of the recess 5 in the'neck and prevents the withdrawal of the stopple.

The bottle is filled in the usualmanner, and the cork 15 inserted so that its upper edge is about on a line with the groove 4 in the neck. The stopple 9 is then inserted in the neck, the lug 8 in line with the recess -7 and the spring 13 with the recess 5. The flange 16 of the stopple9 projects over the mouth of the neck and prevents the insertion .of a tool to release the spring, and the lug 8, being seated in the recess 7 in the mouth of the neck, prevents the lateral displacement of the stopple, and the only way to gain access to the contents of the bottle is to detach the neck portion 3 at the groove 4 and then withdraw the stopple.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire. to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is i A bottle provided with an external breaking-groove, an outwardly-projecting lug above said groove on one side' of the neck, and an internal recess in the lug forming a shoulder, a stopple having a corresponding spring in a side recess,an upper flange to cover the mouth of the bottle, a beveled integral lug under one side of the flange, and a recess in the bottletop to receive said lug, substantially as described.
