INDICATOR FOR MEDICINE BGT'ILES.

HENRYALTSHUL, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
INDICATOR FOR MEDICINE-BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 596,646, dated January 4, 1898.
Application filed January 19, 1897. Serial No. 619,790. (No model.)
.To all whom t may concer-n:
Be it known that I, HENRY ALTSHUL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators for Medicine-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to improvements in indicators for medicine-bottles or other receptacles, the object thereof being to supply a medicine-bottle with a means for indicating a predetermined time to administer a dose of medicine to a patient, whereby a nurse can be supplied with a reminder which will avoid mistakes regarding the hour for administering specific doses of medicine.
The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of th-is specification, Figure l is a perv spective'viewof the upper portion of a bottle, showing the connection of my improved indicator thereto; and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation taken on a line no fr of Fig. l.
In the practice of my invention the body of the bottle is provided with a projected disk A, having a 'clcckdial marked or formed thereon. This said disk forms an integral part of the bottle-body, and it may be used in combination with either one or two hands.
The disk A forms an integral part of the bottle-body. l A glass spindle A is projected outwardly from the center thereof and the hand a pivotally secured thereto, and to prevent lateral motion of the said hand or to prevent the removal thereof from the spindle a washer C is secured to the outer end of the said spindle. This said washer is preferably composed of glass and is welded to the spindle by means of a blowpipe or other suitable means, whereby the hand cannot be removed or lost.
To prevent accidental rotation of the hand on its spindle after it is set for indicating a specic hour, projections a2 are formed upon the face of the dial, the spaces between them being arranged upon radial lines coincident with the numbers and graduations of the dialface. An announcement A2 is also placed upon the face of the dial or adjacent thereto for guidance of the nurse using the bottle.
In the use of the invention a nurse, having delivered a dose of medicine to a patient, will set the hands on the indicator to show the time when the next dose should be administered, and it is obvious that should the nurse be required to deliver a number of different medicines at varying hours the addition of the indicator to the bottles containing the medicine will supply an efiicient guide to prevent mistakes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
vI. The combination, with a bottle, of a clock-dial formed integrally thereon, a hand pivoted upon the bottle and adapted to be set at any predetermined hour indicated by the dial, substantially as shown and described.
2. A bottle having a clock-dial formed integrally therewith and a recess therein and hands thereon, said hands adapted for indieatin g any predetermined time, substantially as shown and described. v
3. The combination, with a bottle, of a dial,
Va metallic spring-metal hand pivotally mounted upon a spindle projected from a recess in the face of the bottle, said dial having a series of projections for locking the hands and a washer for securing the hands to theA spindle, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 16th day of J anuary, 1897.
HENRY ALTSHUL.
