Be it known that I, LUcIUs L. CULVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Valves for Vapor-Burners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact clescription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,for1ning a part of this specification.
My invention relates to valves for vaporburners of the class employed in heating apparatus; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out .in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure I is a view showing two of my improved valves located in a supply-pipe common to both, one of the valves being shown in side View and the other appearing in section. Fig. II illustrates a section through one of the valves, taken on the line II II of Fig. I.
In the drawings, l designates a supplypipe, whose passage-way 2 is common tothe two or more valves located in the pipe. The pipe is bulged at 3, at which points offsets providing interior cavities 4 of greater dimensions than the passage-way 2 are formed. In two opposite sides of the bulged portions of the supply-pipe slightly-tapering openings 5 are provided. 6 designates a conical or slightly-tapering tube inserted in said openings 5 and arranged to be drawn to a tight seat therein by means of a nut 7, screwthreaded to its exterior on its outer end. In the sides of this tube 6 are openings 8, that admit the passage of vapor into the tube, from which the vapor passes, when the valve is open, through jet-hole 9 into the mixingtube 10 and thence to the burner. The jethole is controlled by a valve-point 11, carried by a stem 12, provided with a hand-wheel 13.
By reason of the cavities 4 in the pipe l the vapor freely passes 'the iirst valve to reach the second valve without the necessity of employing a large supply-pipe, the flow of vapor being as free as with a larger pipe.
I claim as my invention* 1. The combination of a supply-pipe formed with a bulge providing an oset having a cavity of greater dimensions than the passage- Way of the supply-pipe, a mixing-tube connected with the bulge, a perforated tube of less diameter than the cavity and having a jet-hole and extending from the mixing-tube across the bulge, leaving a free passage-way around the perforated tube, and a valve-stem having a point for controlling the jet-hole of the perforated tube; substantially as described.
2. The combination of a supply-pipe formed with a bulge having slightly-tapering holes and providing an offset having a cavity of greater dimensions than the passage-way of the supply-pipe, a slightly-tapering perforated tube havinga j et-hole and seating in the openings of the bulge, a nut on the perforated tube whereby it is drawn to its seat, and a valve-stem having a point for controlling the jet-hole in the perforated tube; substantially as described.
