The glass tube C has its opposite ends formed parallel to each other, so as to obtain a true bearing on the elastic cushions 11 and 16. Said tube7 being transparent, alfords the proper means for determining whether the lubricator is performing its functions in a proper manner.
By unscrewing the bolt 13 a slight distance the glass tube G will be released suiciently to enable a person to remove it from the lubricater, and another glass tube may be substituted for it without taking the lubricator apart. If the glass tube C is broken to permit an outflow of steam, the current of escaping steam will impinge against the ball 2 and'force it to roll up the inclined bottom of the chamber 1 into a position where it will bear against the valveseat 3 and close the passage 4, thereby shutting off the outiiow of steam while a new glass tube is substituted for the broken one and restoring the lubricator to a condition for continuing its opera tion.
After the bracket A has been iinished and the annulus 11 fixed therein and the arm B is provided with its annulus 16, the parts should be assembled in the following manner: The arm B should be loosely placed on the lower end of the arm 12 and the screwbolt 18 inserted in the arm 12 sufficiently to retain the parts together. The glass tube C vshould then be placed in position so that its corresponding ends will bear against the an- 'nulus to which it is appropriated. Then by screwing up the screw-bolt 18 the parts will be bound together to form steam-tight joints between the ends of the glass tube and the respective annuluses. Lubricant can be fed to my lubricator from feeders arranged to supply a required quantity in a given time, or the lubricant can be fed to it by an automatic lubricator, the sight-feed lubricator showing ocular evidence that a proper quantity of lubricant is being applied tothe part to be lubricated.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
`1. In a lubricator, the combination of a head having a lubricant-passage formed longitudinally therein and a cushioned seat around its outlet-opening; said head having an arm pendent between its opposite ends, a removable arm attachable to the lower end of said pendent arm having a recess adapted to receive the pendent arm and having a standing flange fitted to bear against the after side of said pendent arm; said removable arm having a cushioned seat on its upper face, a glass tube which is securable between said head and removable arm and is fitted to bear upon said cushioned seats, and means substantially as set forth for securing the removable arm to the pendent arm, as herein specified.
2. In a lubricator, the combination of a head provided with a longitudinal chamber whose lower surface is made to form an obtuse V-shaped depression and whose upper surface is provided with a deiiecting-shoulder arranged directly over said depression; the said chamber having an outlet-passage provided with a valve-seat near its outer end, and a ball-valve which-being larger than either the inlet or outlet passage-is irremovable from said chamber and is adapted to automatically close-v-by the pressure of the escaping steam--said outletpassage, as herein specified.
3. In a lubricator, the combination of a head having a lubricantpassage formed therein and provided with an arm that is pendent therefrom, a removable arm which is attachable to said pendent arm, a glass tube secured between said head and removable arm, and a screw-bolt inserted in said pendent arm and adapted to press the removable arm against the end of the glass tube, as herein specified.
