To all whom. it may concern:
Beit known that l, PATRICK BROWNLEY, a subject of the Queen oi Great Britain and Ireland, residingat St. John, in the Province of New Brunswick and Dominion ofCanada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lubricators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to lubricators of a form adapted for use in connection with the steam-chests of locomotive, hoisting, and other steam-engines, the object of the invention being to providea lubricator which shall not depend upon suction or t-he formation of a vacuum for the proper operation of the lubricator-valves; and to this end the invention consists of a lubrcator wherein the feedingchamber is 4provided with induction and eduction valves, the edueiion-valve being formed with a stem which bears against the under side of the induction-valve and raises said valve from its seat when the said eductionvalve is subjected to the pressure of the steam delivered to the steam-chest, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar ligures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a central sectional elevation of my improved form of lubricator, the feedchamber valves being represented in the position they assume when the eduction-valve is seated. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the feedchamber and its connections, the parts being represented as they appear when the induction-valve is seated and the eduction-valve is moved from its seat; and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View, the View being taken on aline corresponding with the line x .fr of Fig. 1.
In the drawings above referred to, represents the lower casting of my improved form of lubricator, said casting being formed with a central bore, 11, a steam-passage, 12, and a valve-chamber, 13, the chamber 13 and the bore 11 being in communication through the medium of a passage, 14, while the passage 12 leads directly to the bore 11. The walls of the chamber 13 are threaded, in order that they may be engaged by an external thread that is -for the passage of Letters Patent No. 374,729, dated December 13, 1887.

The feeding-chamber 15 is provided with an induction valve, 17, that is seated in an aperture formed in the upper wall of the chamber, thestem 18 of this valve 17 projecting upward througha guiding-socket that is formed in a spider, 19, said spider being connected to the feeding-chamber, as indicated,-and the valve being normally held against its scat by a spring, 20.
In the lower wall of the case forming the feeding-chamber I arrange an eductiouvalve, 21, that is preferably formed lower face, as illustrated. Recesses 2 are formed in the edge of the valve'21, to provide the lubricating material. The valve 21 is provided with astein, 22,whicl1 extends upward, so as to bear against t-he under side of the valve 17 at times when the valve 21 is forced to its seat.
The casting 10 has an internally-th readed flange, 24, that is engaged by an external thread formed on the outer side of a cylinder, 25, said cylinder resting upon a paeliing ring or washer, 26. The upper end of this cylinder 25 is closed by a cap, 27, which cap is formed with a centrallyapertured boss or projection, 28, this boss being internally threaded to receive a closing-plug, 29, which is centrallyY bored, as shown. j
The space within the cylinder 25 constitutes the oil-supply reservoir or chamber 30, and through this chamber I pass a tube, 31, one end of said tube being threaded to engage with a thread formed in the walls of the passage 12, while the other end of the tube is connected to a short tube, 32, by means of a right and left hand coupling, 33; or the coupling might be of any other form desired. The tube 32 communicates with an elbow, 34, which engages with a proper aperture formed in the casting 10, as does also the tube 32, and the elbow 34 is in turn connectedwith a regulating-cock, 35. A vent-pipe, 36, leads from the chamber 15 upward through the chamber 30 and out through the plug 29, as shown. A petcock,

The combination, with the oilreservoir having central openings, 11, 14, and 13, in its bottom, of the chamber 15, threaded at its lower end to engage the threaded Walls of opening 13, and provided with valve-seats in its top and bottom, the downwardlybpening gravity-valve 21, having recesses 2, and a stem, 22, extending into said chamber, the separate and independent upper valve, 17, having a stem, the spider 19, having a guiding-socket for said stem, and the spring 20 on said stem, substantially as set forth. v
3. In a lubricator, the combination, with a bottom casting having a central bore and a valvechamber, of a casing constituting a feedchamber, a storagechamber within which the feeding-chamber is arranged, a steam-pipe arranged iu the storage-chamber, and a means for regulating the supply of steam passing as described.
