0. V. EMERSON & J. A. HILGKEN. GAME DEVICE.
Patented Oct. 19, 1897.
WITIIESSAS'. mm! ans UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
OORA VENDETTA EMERSON AND JOHN AUGUST HILOKEN, OF BROOKLYN,
NEW YORK.
GAME DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 591,961, dated October 19, 1897.
Application filed May '7, 1897. Serial No. 635,506. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CORA VENDETTA EM- ERSON and J OHN AUGUST HILCKEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puzzles or Game Devices, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toy and game devices, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be used either as atoy, game,or puzzle, and which is adapted to entertain and amuse the young.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a part of our improved toy, game, or puzzle device, and Fig. 2 a similar View of another part thereof.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, the separate parts of our improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in the practice of our invention we provide a base plate or support 5, to which is pivoted a rectangular frame, consisting of parallel rods 6 and 7, which are connected by end rods 8, and this frame is connected with the plate or support by staples or loops 9, and is free to turn in said staples or loops, and at each end of the base plate or support 5 are springs 10, by means of which the frame may be held in an upright position, as shown in the drawin gs, and the rod 7 of said frame is enlarged or provided with a roller 11, which is rigidly secured thereto and provided with pins 12, any desired number of which may be employed. We also provide a spring-block 13, which is preferably composed of metal so as to give weight thereto, and secured to said block is a spring 14:, provided with an arm 15, which is curved backwardly over the block 13, and the arm 15 of the spring 14 is downwardly curved centrally thereof and provided with a nestshaped receptacle formed by curved rods 16, which are secured thereto. We also provide a plurality of toy figures 17, which are intended to represent chickens, and which are composed of any suitable material which may be easily punctured by a pin, and when our improvement is used as a game device, two
of the sprin g-blocks 13 are employed, and four of said figures 17, and two persons also play at the game, and the frame, which is provided with the pins 12, is raised into the position shown in Fig. '1, and the spring-blocks 13 are placed in front thereof, and each of the players is provided with two of the figures 17, and the player who can first succeed in so manipulating the spring-arm 15 as to connect the figures 17 with the pins 12 wins the game. In this operation, the figures 17 are placed on the spring-arm 15, as shown in Fig. 2, and said springarm is depressed, and then released so as to project the figures 17 in such manner as to strike one ofthe pins 12, by which said figure will be held, as shown in Fig. 1.
When thedevice is used as a puzzle, the solution of the puzzle will consist in so manipulating the spring-arm 15 of the springblock 13 as to connect each of the figures with the pins 12 successively, and it will thus be seen that we accomplish the object of our invention by means of a device which is simple in construction and operation, and one which is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended.
Having fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described puzzle or game device, comprising a base-board, a rectangular frame pivotally mounted thereon, springs secured to each end of said base-plate, and adapted to hold the frame in a vertical position, a cylinder mounted on the upper side of said frame, a plurality of pins projecting from one side thereof in a horizontal manner, said pins being sharpened, a block, a yoke-shaped spring mounted on said block and provided at the free end thereof with a nest-shaped receptacle, and a toy figure composed of material easily perforated and adapted to be projected by said spring against one of said pins, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention we have signed our names, in.
presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 5th day of May, 1897.
