Description

IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOES.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,016, dated October 23, 1866.
To all whom it mayV concern:
Be it known that I, WARNE HrNDs, of Worcester, in Worcester county, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to cnable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further invention or experiment.
The nature ofmy invention and improvements consists in the application to the shoe of peculiar devices for retaining it to the hoot', and so arranging them that they shall not be liable to work loose by wear, and in plating the exposed parts to preserve their luster.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows a shoe with my improvements. and Fig. 2 is a cross-secv make them ot' such form that they shallhturn and clinch when so driven. This is accomplished by making them slender, and leaving the under side nearly straight, and beve-ling the upper at the point, as shown in Fig. 2. The outside of the lips and other exposed parts I plate to protect it.
In putting on the shoe the li'ps C C C are first bent back, as shown by the dotted lines o o', Fig. 2, the shoe fitted, and places made in the edge of the hoof for the lips C C C. The foot is then put down, and with the horse standing ou the shoe the lips C C C are driven up snugly, forcing the clinching-points into the hoof', which, turning as they enter, clinch and hold them securely. i
It is evident that more than one clinch may be used on each lip, if necessary, and they made to clinch toward each other; or even straight points, as at t' z', may be used with the clinches, and other variations of my invention will occur in adapting it to different cases.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Iatent, is
The horseshoe constructed substantially as herein described, as a new article of manufacture.
