SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.- 588,138, dated August 17, 1897.
Serial No. 601,204. (No model.)
To ctZZu/wm 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS CHARLES GEI- GER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Parkersburg, in the county of Wood and State of lVest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cupboards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout the several views.
This invention relates to cupboards; and the object thereof is to provide an improved cupboard for household use the central portion of which is provided with a flour-bin of novel construction, a sliding bread-board immediately beneath the flour-bin, shelves and sliding jaws arranged adjacent thereto, and the upper and lower portions of the cupboard being provided with hinged doors and with shelves, which serve as holders for any desired articles, and the central portion of the cupboard is also provided with a hinged door or doors, which inclose the flour-bin and bread-board; and the invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- 1 Figure 1 is a front view of my improved cupboard, the doors of the central portion of the cupboard which inclose the flour-bin and the bread-board being open; Fig. 2, a central vertical section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a plan view of the flour-bin.
In the practice of my invention I provide a cupboard 5, which maybe of the usual or any preferred form and the frame of which cousists of sides G, a back 7, and top and bottom plates 8 and 9. The cupboard is also divided by means of transverse partition plates or boards 10 and 11 into three substantially equal parts, and the central part is divided by a vertical partition into spaces, one of which is much larger than the other, and the smaller space is provided with a hinged door 12, below which is a sliding drawer 13, and the larger space is provided with the flourbin 14, a bread-board 15, and at one side thereof is one or more shelves 16, which are adapted to receive spice-boxes and similar articles. The space within which the iiourbin 14 is placed is also provided with hinged doors 17 and 18, and said iour-bin is suspended from cleats or strips 19, arranged at the opposite sides of said space, the iour-bin being provided at 'each end with transverse shoulders or projections 2Q, which rest upon said cleats or strips, and said iiour-bin may be removed whenever desired.
The iour-bin 14 is divided into four separate compartments 21, as shown in Fig. 3, and said compartments are adapted to receive various kinds of iiour, meal, &c., and the bottoms of these compartments are inclined downwardly and inwardly toward the center, both the sides and the ends thereof being inclined, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and each compartment is provided at the lowest point of the bottom thereof with an opening 22, through which the iiour or meal maypass, and
each of these openings 22 is provided with a sliding cut-off or valve 23, which is provided with ahandle 24, and the bottom of each compartment is provided on its lower side with a groove 25, in which the handle 24 of the cutoff or valve 22 works. I also provide a detachable sieve 26, which may be detachably suspended from the bottom of the Hour-bin, so as to inclose all of the openings 22, and immediately below the hour-bin is a breadboard 15, which is provided with a vertical eX- tension 27 at the back thereof, and said breadboard is adapted to be drawn out, as shown in Fig. 2, or to be shoved back into the cupboard and is held in place by cleats or strips 28.
The upper part of the cupboard, or that part above the central portion in which thelourbin is placed, is provided with a transverse removable partition-plate 29 and hinged doors.
30, and the lower part, or that part below the central space in which the iiour-bin is placed, is also provided with a detachable shelf 31 and hinged doors 32, and the spaces or compartments thus'formed may be used as recep tacles or holders for any articles employed in housekeeping, such as dishes, cooking utensils, queensware, dsc., and the sliding drawer 13 and the space or compartment inclosed by the door 12 may be employed for a similar or any desired purpose.
Having fully described my invention, I
IOO
in the compartment beneath said bin, substantially as set forth.
