JOIIN F. CORDES, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
METLLIC ORDER-BLANK AND RECEIPT HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,594, dated July 20, 1897'.
Application led January 7, 1897. Serial No. 618,343. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it 72am/ concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN I". CORDES, acitizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovements in Metallic Order-Blau k and Receipt Holders; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description-of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to metallic orderblank and receipt holders, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap, and durable article of the character described, in which any desired number of sheets, leaves, or blanks may be placed and securely held, the same being easily removed when iilled up, so that a new supply of leaves or blanks may be readily substituted.
The invention consists in an improved holder embodying certain novel features and details of construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of a holder constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail section showing the method of hinging the binding-plates and also showing flexible connection between one of said plates and one of the covers. Fig. 3 is a detail inside plan view showing the springs which normally close the bindingplates upon the leaves or blanks.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, l designates the covers of the holder, of which there are two, said covers being preferably constructed of metal, which for the sake of lightness consists of aluminium. Secured to the bottom cover l is a hinge-plate 2, the same beingprovidedat its outer edge with a series of ears or sleeves arranged to interlap with corresponding ears or sleeves 4; on a similar plate 5, forming the spring-actuated binding-plate for holding the leaves or blanks in place. Passing through the several ears or sleeves is a tubular pin G, which forms the hinged oonnection between the plates 2 and 5.
At spaced points the plates 2 and 5 are cut away, as indicated at 7, to expose portions of the tubular pin 6, and around such exposed portions of the pin are placed spiral springs 8, one terminal of each spring being engaged with one of the plates 2, while the opposing terminal of the spring is engaged with the other plate 5. The tension olil the springs is adapted to maintain the clamping or binding plate 5 in engagement with the leaves or blanks contained in the holder 'for preventing their accidental displacement, while at the same time the plate 5 may be lifted so as to overcome the tension of said springs for permitting the leaves or blanks to be removed preparatory to their being replaced by new ones.
The upper cover l is secured to the binding-plate 5 by a xed strip 9. This strip may consist of leather or a combination of rubber and canvas, or other suitable material, one edge of said strip being secured to the upper cover l by being' confined between the inner edge of said cover andabinding-strip l0, fastened to said cover, the other edge of the strip being confined between the inner surface of the binding-plate 5 and a metal strip l1, which is secured to said binding-plate in any convenient manner, preferably by short rivets, and which bears against the inner ends of the leaves or blanks l2 for maintaining them in place.
By means of the construction above described the inner edges of the leaves or blanks are firmly clamped between the binding-plate 5 and the lowercover, and by means of the flexible connection 0 the upper cover may be turned back, as upon a hinge, for exposing the leaves or blanks.
The improved cover is extremely simple in construction, m ay be manufactured at a slight cost, and is extremely durable.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-
In an order-blank or receipt hold er, the combination with a pair of binding or clamping plates with interlapping perforated ears or sleeves cutaway at spaced points adjacent IOO Clamping-plate, said flexible plate havingits opposing edges secured to said plates by Inetallie strips, substantially as and for the purpose described. v
In testimony whereof I have signed this speeieation in the presence of two subscribin g Witnesses.
