UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JAMES SAUZE, OF IVALLA IVALLA, IVASHINGTON.
COMBINED PURSE, PARCEL-CARRIER, AND BELT-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,369, dated July 13, 1897.
Application filed October 6, 1896. Serial No. 608,041. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t Duty concern;
Beit known that I, JAMES SAUZE, a citizen of the United States, residing at .Valla IValla, in the county of lValla Walla and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a- Oombined Purse, Parcel-Carrier, and Belt-Buckle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a combined purse, parcel-carrier, and belt-hook, my object being to provide a device which can be readily attached to the belt of a person, said device being adapted to carry small change, parcels, rbc.
To this end the invention consists in the various matters hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure l is a perspective of the present device. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof. Fig. 3 is an inside view showing the parts opened to their full extent.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, l represents a back plate having a cut-away portion 2 in its center, thus leaving a frame 3 about said cut-away portion. Upon this frame is attached a piece of suitable fabric, such as kid, while upon the front of the plate is secured a pocket et, also of kid or similar material, this pocket lying over the fabric in the back plate and the two forming a receptacle for small change, car-tickets, duc. Means, such as 5, are provided upon the rear of the back plate for attachment to one end of a belt, while a hook 6 is also provided upon said plate, to which the other end of a belt can be fastened. I do not wish, however, to limit myself to this means of securing the present device upon a belt, as it is manifest that it need not form the buckle, but can be slipped and held upon any portion of the belt in any suitable manner.
At the bottom of the back plate are provided the springs 7, to the outer sides of which are attached the front member of the device, said front member comprising a plate S of any suitable design. This plate is held by the springs normally in engagement with the back plate, so that between the two plates letters, papers, dac., can be slipped and held in position. Upon the back plate, held in the belt, and can even form the fastening for said belt, while at the same time many articles can be carried thereby. It is designed chieiiy for the use of bicycle-riders in order to leave theirhands free for guiding the wheel.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A device of the character indicated comprising a plate having a cut-away portion in its center, a fabric secured by said plate in the cut-away portion, a pocket upon the plate in front of the fabric, an elastic strip carried by the back plate, and means upon said plate for securing the same to a belt, substantially as described.
2. A device of the character indicated comprising a plate, having a cut-away portion in the center, means for securing said plate and a strip of elastic carried by the back plate upon a belt, springs upon the bottom of said plate, and afront plate carried by said springs and normally held by them against the firstmentioned plate, substantially as described.
3. A device of the character indicated comprising a back plate having a cut-away portion in the center, means upon said back plate for attaching the same to one end of a belt,
a hook upon said back plate adapted to engage the other end of a belt, a fabric carried by the back plate in the cut-away portion, a pocket upon the front of said back plate opposite the fabric in the cut-away portion, spiral springs at the lower edge of said back plate, one of the ends of said springs being secured to the back plate and the other of the ends of said springs carrying a front plate, and a strip of elastic carried by the back plate, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specificationin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J AMES SAUZE. vWitnesses:
J. T. TAYLOR, S. G. WHITMAN.
