` No. 584,791. Patented June 22, 1897.
with notches 7 for the reception of the fence- Ythermen Smarts JACOB Y. PROIST, OF STANTON, ALABAMA.
METALLIC FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,791, dated June 22, 1897.
Application filed July 2 5, l. S 9 6.
.T0 all wiz/0771, t m/rtg/ concern:
Beit known that I, JAGOBAY. PROPST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stanton, inthe county of Chilton and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Fence-Posts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to metallic fence-posts- My object is to provide a cheap and strong, as well as durable, metallic fence-post which will be of simple construction and ornamental appearance and can be quickly and easily set.
Having the foregoing object in view, the present invention consists of a fence-post comprising certain details of construction more fully set forth in the following' description and the appended claim.
The accompanying drawing represents my improved fence-post in perspective.
The numerals l and 2 designate two parts of a single rod, which parts are doubled back and twisted around each other, as shown, and have their lower ends spread, as at 3 and 4.
The numeral 5 designates a metal base, to which these legs or spread portions of the rod are connected by being passed therethrough and provided with nuts 6 on both sides of the base. The two pieces of the rod are provided wires, which maybe held therein in any preferred manner.
It will be seen that I have provided a` fencepost of extremely simple and durable consenti No. 600,535. (No model.)
struction which may be produced at small cost and is ornamental in appearance. There is a great advantage in having the body of the post formed of portions of rod or tubing twisted and which have their ends spread or diverged. The post is therebymade extremely strong and solid, while the fact that a single base is employed, to which the divergin g legs are connected, affords a strong and firm anchor. It will also be apparent that the connection which I employ between the legs and the base is a superior one, and the strength of the post is supplemented by this construction.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ism
The herein-described fence-post made from a single piece of material which is doubled' back upon itself to form two pieces which are twisted around each other a number of times and are provided with notches for the fencewires, the lower ends of said pieces being spread or diverged to form l'egs, a single base through which both of the legs pass, and clamping or securing nuts located on both of the legs and on opposite sides of the baseplate.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
JACOB Y.V PROPST.
