CHARLES A. SCHOONMAKER, OF WVEST SAUGERTIES, NElV YORK.
MEAT BLOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,410, dated June 15, 1897.
Application filed December 23, 1896. $erial No. 616,705. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. SoHooN- MAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Test Saugerties, in the county of U1- ster and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Blocks, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to meat-blocks; and the object thereof is to provide an improved block for this purpose which is pivotally supported and which is flat at one end and cupshaped at the other, said block being supported in a frame in such manner that it may be turned on its pivotal supports so as to present either end thereof for use.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification,of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being a sectional side View of my improved meatblock and the supports thereof.
In the drawing forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference, and in the practice of my invention I provide a frame which comprises a base 5, a standard 6, and a yoke-shaped head 7, and the sides of the yoke-shaped head are provided with transverse slots or openings 8, and secured to the outer side of the yoke '7 are strong springs 9, each of which is provided at its upper end with an annular hook or projection 10. I also provide a meat-block 11, which is preferably cylindrical in form in cross-section and one end of which is flat, as shown at 12, and the other end of which is cut away, so as to form a cup-shaped receptacle 13.
The block 11 is provided centrally of each side thereof with journals 14, which are adapted to enter the transverse slots or openings 8 in the sides of the yoke 7, and at each side of one of the tenons and longitudinally of the block is a cavity or recess 15, and mounted in one side of the yoke 7 is a springoperated bolt 17, which is adapted to enter either of the cavities or recesses 15, and the bolt 17 is provided at its outer end with a head 18, which is provided with a link or handle 19.
The spring 20, by which the bolt is forced inwardly, is mounted between the lower end of one of the springs 9 and a plate 21, secured in either position by means of the bolt 17.
The flat end of the block is intended for the ordinary purpose of cutting meat, while the cup-shaped receptacle 13 in the opposite end is intended as a receptacle for meat which it is desired to chop or out into fine or small particles.
My invention is not limited to the form. of the frame by which the block is'supported, and any suitable frame may be provided for this purpose, the only object in this connection being to provide a suitable frame with sides between which the block may be pivoted and turned as desired.
My improvement is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with a meat-block having one end fiat and the other concave, of a frame consisting of a base and yoke-shaped head connected by a standard the sides of the said yoke shaped head having transverse slots or openings, springs on the outside of said yoke, said springs being provided with annular hooks or projections, journals in said block centrally located on each side and adapted to revolve in said transverse slots or openings, recesses in the side of said block and a pin actuated by a spring in one of the sides of the said head, and adapted to engage the said recesses, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 18th day of December, 1896.
CHARLES A. SOHOONHAKER.
Witnesses ALBERT SCHOONMAKER, GEORGE Earn.
