UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK S. MCGEE, OF DODGEVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583, 541, dated June 1, 1897. Application filed May 25,1896. Serial No. 593,030- (NO model- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK S. MOGEE, residing at Dodgeville, in the county of Bristol and State of lvlassachusettsmave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game- Boards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Myinvention relates to certain new and useful improvements in game-boards or puzzles.
It consists of a base, preferably made so as to represent the outline of one-half the deck of a man-of-war, and having an upwardlyprojecting flange extending around its outer sides or edges, and provided with a series of chambers placed equidistant from one another. On the end of the base and on the center line lengthwise to it is placed a cannon which is mounted upon a turret, said turret having a stud or pivot which is fitted loosely in the base or deck. (See Figure 3.)
Fig. 1 represents a top view of the gameboard. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section in line X X of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional View of the cannon mounted on the turret, taken on line Y Y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the same in line Z Z of Fig. 1.
A represents the base or board, which may be of any convenient size, having a series of chambers cl, of the form as shown, said chambers being secured around the sides and forward end of the base, as shown in Fig. 1.
G is a cannon mounted upon a base or turret, and said turret having a stud 75 cast upon its under side and made to fit loosely into the base A. (See Fig. 3.) This turret I make preferably of cast metal and represents a cannon mounted upon a circular base Z7, said cannon provided with a rod h and spiral spring s for throwing the ball, the rod being manipulated by the player.
The object of this game-board is to place upon which the balls are the balls m, thrown one by one from the turret or monitor, into the chambers d, making them move in the direction shown by the dotted lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
In Fig. l the ball is represented as thrown from the cannon in the direction of the deflector e, from whence it should move to the inclosure or chamber No. 7.
In commencing the game (see Fig. 1) the player drops his marble or ball on the incline 4, upon which it rolls until it finds its restingplace in the concave u of the bore of the cannon, after which the player revolves the turret to a line central with No. 1 inclosure. The gunner then lets go of the rod h and the already-compressed spring 5' throws the ball, and by the proper manipulation said ball will enter into the inclosure or chamber 01 and rest within or against the Fig. 1,) as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The herein-described toy having an improved projector consisting of a cannon O mounted upon a turret or base 29, said cannon and turret made of wood, tin, or other suitable material, and provided with an incline 1" upon which the balls are placed, the spring 8, with the rod h, for projecting the ball, the whole arranged and mounted upon a base A, substantially as shown and described.
2. The herein-described game-board having a base A and provided with a series of chambers (Z attached thereto, the deflectors e, the bell f, the cannon O mounted upon a turret, said cannon and turret made of wood, tin, or cast metal and provided with an incline r placed, the spring 3, and rod h for manipulating the ball, substan tially as shown and described.
