Description
UNITED STATES BATENT FFICE.
ANTON M. Dl/VORSOHACK, OF INDEPENDENCE, 'VVISGONSIN.
YWHIFFLETREE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 581,198, dated April 20, 1897.
Application filed December 26, 1896. fierial No. 617,082. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LANTON M. DWORSCHACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Trempealeau and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful WVhiffietree, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in Whiffletrees made from round iron rods or heavy wire and secured to any ordinary evener by a combined double-headed bolt and clip or plate, which is secured to the evener by means of two bolts.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the whiffletree connected to the evener. Fig. 2 is a top view of the whiftletree connected to the evener. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the combined double-headed bolt and plate to which the whiffletree is attached and by which it is secured to the evener.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
4t designates the evener. 5 designates the combined bolt and plate. 6 designates the head of the bolt around which the whiffietree is passed. 7 designates the bolts that hold the combined bolt and plate to the evener. 8 designates the top half of the whiflietree. 9 designates the lower half of the whittletree. 1O designates the stay-rod for holding the ends of the whiffletree apart, and 11 designates the hooks to engage with the harness.
The bolt and plate 5 are cast, the bolt being cast with the plate, thereby forming one piece, and having the double heads for the lower diverging arms.
purpose of holding the whifiletree after it is bent round the bolt. The bolts 7 are then passed through the cast plate and secure it to the evener. The wire 8, forming the top half of the whiffietree, is bent round the head of the bolt 5 and then crossed and bent round the lower half of the whiffletree 9 back of the stay-rod 10. The lower half of the whiffletree 9 is bent round the lower head of the bolt 5 and then crossed and passed through the eyes of the upper half 8 and through the eyes on the stay-rod 10, and eyes are then formed on the ends into which the hooks 11 are secured.
Having thus described my invention, what 50 I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
A whiffletree comprising a bolt-plate adapted to be secured to the evener, a bolt integral with said plate, a lower section bent around the lower portion of the bolt and provided with diverging arms, terminating in eyes to which are secured hooks and an upper section bent around the integral bolt and terminating in arms diverging in a plane parallel with the lower arms, the said upper arms being bent at right angles and secured at their extremities to the lower arms, and a stayrod secured at its extremities to the 5 In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affiXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ANTON M. DVVORSOl-IAGK. Witnesses:
JAMES ELSTAD, F. M. THEISEN.
