Be it known that I, THOMAS J. PEARSON, a eitiz'en of the Unit-ed States, residing at Vienna, in the connty 0f Fairfax and State 0f Virginia, have invented certain new ancl useful Improvements in OlothesLine Reels and I d0 hereby deelare the following to be a fnll, elear, and exact deseription of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art 130 whieh it appertains 110 make and use the same.
1Vly invention is a elothes-line reel; and it eonsists of a frame and meehanism for holding, stretehing, and storing a elothes-line and 0f means for securing said clevice t0 a tree, post, or wall.

My invention is deseribed as follows:
1 is a plate made of heavy sheet-iron or other like material and is providecl With perforations 2, 3, ancl 4. The plate is bent a1: 5, forming a V extension 6, and in the acute part 0f the V extension is the perforation 4. The plate is then agatn bent at 7 7, and the two arms 8 8 are fixed parallel 130 ea0l1 other by means 0f a r0d 9, the ends of which are seeurely fixecl in the perforations 2. 011 this rocl 9 is journaled a spool 10. In the square perforations 3 are fixecl bearings 11, the neek 12 (see Fig. 5) being plaeed in the perforations 3 and the flanges 13 bearing against the outer faces 0f the arn1s 8. Through the perforations 14 in saicl bearings is journaled an axle 15, ancl 0n either encl 015 sald axle and bearing against the flange 13 are ratehetwheels 16. These ratehet-Wheels keep the bearings 11 from coming 01113 of place, but eaeh is provided with an inner re0ess 17, in which the flanges 13'1ie, so that the inner faees of said ratehet-wheels may work against the outer faces of the arms 8. Each of said. ratchet-wheels is provicled with a dog 18, and ea0h end 0f the axle 15 is adapted 120 reeeive a crank-handle 19. This crank-handle 1nay 100 used 011 either end of said axle, as convenience may require.
-On the axle 15 and between the arms 8 is Starial N0. 599,425. (N0 model.)
rigidly seeured a spool 20, and 130 tl1is spool is seeured the clothes-line 21, whieh may be woi1nd or unwound at pleasure.
As a part of this invention 1 have devised a braeket 22, consisting of a plate 23, having perforations 24, and near the upper end of the plate an arm 25, Whi0h extends outwarcl from the plate 23 and then downwarcl parallel to the fa0e 0f the plate for a short distanee, ancl near the lower end of the plate an arm 26, extending outward from the faee of the plate, then upward parallel With the face thereof, and then turned in, forming a nib 27.
In rigging my invention f0r use the plate 23 is se0urecl against the f-ace of a tree, post, 0r Wall, With the arm 26 Clown. Then the upper edge of the V extension 6 is pushed up between the arm 25 ancl the face 0f the plate 23 until the lower edge thereof Will pass between nib 27 ancl the faee of the plate. The plate 1 is 1et down, in which position the nib 27 is immediately opposite the perforation 4, and as soon as tension 0n the line 21 is hacl saicl nib 27 passes through the perforation 4.
The objeet 01: having the V- shaped part 6 isthat the cleviee may be turned either to the right er left to aeeomn1oda-te itself to the free end of the 1ine.
Having deseribed my invention, what I 01aim as new, and desire to seeure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of plate 1, having the perforations 2 and 4, and square perforations 3, the V extension 6 and arms 8, 8; the rod 9, axle 15, crank-handle 19 and braeket 22, 00mprising the plate 23, having perforation 24; arm 25, extending outward and downward and arm 26, extending outward, upward and inward, substantially as shown and. deseribed and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination 0f the plate 1, having the perforations 2 and 4, and square perforations 3, the V extension 6 and a1ms 8, 8; the rod 9, spool 10,bearings ll,fitting in thesquare perforations axle 15, ratehet-wheels 16; dogs 18; erank-handle 19 and spool 20, substantially as shown and deseribed and for the purposes set forth.
3. The eombination of the plate 1, having the perforations 2 and 4, and square perforations 3; the V extension 6, and arms 8, 8; the rod 9, spool10,bearings ll,fitting in the square perforations; ax1e 15; ratchet-wheels 16; dogs 18, cmnk-handle 19; sp00120, and bracket 22, comprising the plate 23, hzwing perfomtions 24, arm 25, extending outward and downward, zmd arm 2G, extending ouward, upward und inward, substantially as shown a11d described and for the pu1poses set forth.
