SOHEERER, OF SAME PLACE.
INHALER.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofl Letters Patent No. 580,511, dated April 13, 1897.
Application filed October 22, 1896. Serial No. 609,648. (No model.)
To a/ZZ ra177/071?,l it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, WILHELM SCHEERER, manufacturer, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Tuttlingen, Germany, have invented a new and useful Mask for Inhalin g Narcotics, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improvement in chloroform-masks, which permits the same to be conveniently folded up in a flat form in the case, at the same time, however, automatically resuming the required shape as soon as it is withdrawn from the case. The mask may, moreover, be provided with a draining-trou gh adapted to be fitted in place in the simplest manner.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same; Fig. 3, a detail plan view of the drip-trough, and Fig. 4. an edge view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, it will' be seen that the frame A consists of a spiral A, made from one 'piece of spring-wire, in elliptical form, which is enlarged toward the bottom and helically arranged, the said spiral being bent to form a handle aat its bottom. This spiral may be flattened to the thickness of the Wire, but immediately returns to its normal position as soon as released. Over this frame a cap or cover of fabric or the like is drawn.
When employing a drain or drip trough B,
Figs. 3 and 4., the lowermost spring portion of the wire frame A is sprung into the horseshoe-shaped trough, and is thereby held fast against the inner wall of the trough, which is curled over somewhat at its top. Where a trough is employed, a special cap is not required to cover the spring-frame, but any desired piece of fabric, cloth, gauze, or the like may be placed over the frame and held fast by being clamped between the frame and the drain or drip trough.
The spring-wire frame A may be manufactured at an exceedingly low cost and the price of such a simple and practical mask is very small. This is also the case where the driptrough is employed. The main advantage, however, resides in the simple separability of the trough from the frame, as well as in the fact that the latter may be folded into a liat position and conveniently received in a case.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is
l. A chloroform-mask comprising a driptrough and a spiral spring secured thereto, substantially as set forth.
2. A chloroform-mask comprising a drip` trough having its edge curled over, and a spring device arranged to engage said curled edge, whereby the spring is held to the trough, substantially as set forth.
3. A chloroform-mask comprising a driptrough substantially horseshoe-shaped, and a spiral spring arranged to engage saidtrough, substantially as set forth.
4. A chloroform-mask comprising a substantially horseshoe-shaped drip-trough having its edge curled over, and a spiral spring arranged to engage said edge and provided with an extension forming a handle, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
