A. SOHROEDER.
HINGE FOR AWNING BLINDS.
No. 579,609. Patented Mar. 30, 1.897.

NITED STATES A'IENT FFIQE.
ANTON SCHROEDER, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,609, dated March 30, 1897'. Application filed October 18, 1895. Serial No. 666,086. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANTON SCHROEDER, of St. Paul, Ramsey county, Minnesota, have invented certain Improvements in Invisible Hinge-Hangers for Storm-Sash and Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hinge-hangers for storm window-sash and screen-windows, its object being to provide simple fittings of cheap construction which may be stamped out of sheet metal, can be applied to any window-frame without marring' the same, are better concealed from view than the ordinary fittings, and to which the sash can be easily attached either from within or without the window.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a window-frame and the storm-sash connected thereto by my improved fittings. Fig. 2 is a detail of the sash, showing the hook member of the hanger. Fig. 8 is a perspective detail of the hanger, the parts being in engaging position. Fig. 4: is a perspective detail of the hook member. and 6 are details of the pintle or gudgeon member; and Fig. 7 is a detail of the edge of the sash near the top, showing the part cutaway to fit to the hook member.
In the drawings, A represents the windowframe; B, the hook members of the fittings, which are secured to the inner face of the window-frame outside the stop-bead 2. These members are fiat, formed either of sheet metal or malleable metal, and having a hook 3 projecting from the outer edge in the plane of the member, and the point of the hook also being substantiallyin line with the top edge of the member.
To the face of the sash D, adjacent the side edges near the top, are secured the eye members C .of the fittings, also flat and formed out of sheet or malleable metal. The edge of each member projects beyond the side edge of the window and is provided with a vertical slot 5, forming an eye and adapted to receive the projecting edge of the member B, the narrow piece of metal at the upper end of the slot forming a gudgeon 8, which fits into the notch 4 of the. hook member and turns in it as a bearing. The edge of the sash is cut away at 6, as shown, to furnish a recess in which projects the member B upon the frame.
The Window is secured in closed position in any suitable manner, and its open position preferably adjusted and limited by the hook 7. The parts are so adjusted that the sash cannot be lifted out of the window to be disengaged from the hooks of the members B unless it is opened farther than the length of the securing-hook 7, the top rail abutting against the top of the window-frame and preventing the lifting of the gudgeons 8 from the notches 4.
I claim- As an improved article of manufacture, the hinge-hanger for window-sash, consisting of the plane-surfaced hook and eye members, the hook member being secured to the inside of the window-frame, and having a hook projecting in its plane, and serving as a gudgeon-bearing, the eye member being fitted to the outer face of the sash, and projecting beyond the side edges of the same, and having a slotted opening to receive the projecting edge of the hook member, the web at the up per end of the slot serving as a gudgeon and turning in the hook as a hearing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANTON SCHROEDER.
