To all whmn it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN W. FLOWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belpre, in the county of Washington and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cartridge-Loaders; andIdo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for reloading cartridges; and it has for its objects, among others, to provide a simple cheap improved device for this purpose which shall combine in the one implement the various tools heretofore formed singly. It combines in the one device tools for reloadingviz., a capper, a decapper, a wad-rammer, a charger, and a criinper. Its advantages are its economy, its convenience, its simplicity, and the ease and rapidity of its operation. It avoids also the necessity of the purchase and care of a number of independent tools, as heretofore.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a view of my improved combination-tool complete. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the crimper. Fig. 3 is a detail of the charger removed. Fig. 4 is a detail of the decapper.

Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the handles, one of which constitutes the rammer A and the other the charger B, which comprises the adjustable measuring device B", having the indicating-slots 1), into which is engaged the laterally-projecting pin 13 on the fixed por tion of the charger. This is adjusted to regulate the charge desired. To each of these handles is connected a jaw O, which are bent, as shown at 0, so as to be oppositely disposed, and in an opening in one of said jaws is mounted the shaft D and a collar D bearing against Serial No. 584,860. the enlarged boss of said jaw, and upon its inner end within the space inclosed by said jaws is the erimper E, of any suitable or wellknown construction, adapted for the purpose of crimping the end of the cartridge. The other jaw at a point opposite the crimper is provided with the flanges F, adapted to hold the end of the cartridge while the other end is being crimped, and these flanges on their inner faces are preferably toothed or serrated, as Shown.

The jaws are pivotally connected at G, being preferably halved out, as shown, after the order of a rule-joint, and the shoulders thereof forming stops. The jaw which carries the rammer has an extension G, formed with a head g, while the other jaw has an extension H, which near its connection with the part of the pivot and substantially in line therewith is formed with the yoke 11*, forming the rest for the cartridge, while its other end is extended upwardly, as shown at 11 and bifurcated, and in this bifurcation is pivotally mounted on a pivot i the decapper I, the other end of which is provided with the point I. This dccapper is mounted so as to be swung down into line with the rest or thrown in the other direction, as may be desired.

One of the jaws near its handle is provided with a lug K, having an opening 70, while the said jaw in proximity to the pivot has a concaved plate L fixed thereon, which has a central opening Z, which receives the projection M of the tubular support M, the opposite side of which is provided with the arm or pin M around which is a coiled spring M this point or pin being designed to be seated in the opening in the lug just described.

\Vith the parts constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described the operation will be readily apparent. The cartridge-shell is first placed on the decapper, which is then brought forward into the rest and the handles brought together. This forces out the cap. The cartridge-shell is then removed from the decapper, which latter is swung backward out of the way, and the cartridge-shell is placed in the rest and the primer placed in position, and when the handles are again closed the primer will be fast. The cartridge shell is now decapped and capped. The cartridge-shell is then removed from the rest.

The charger is set to measure the size of the load, as desired, and the load put into the sh ell. The wad is then placed in the cartridge on the charge and pressed to place with the rammer. The tubular support is then turned on its pivot so as to receive the cartridge with its mouth toward the operator: It is then turned so as to bring its mouth toward the crimper, when the handle of the crimper is turned gradually, and at the same time gradually closing the handles until the end is su fficiently crimped,when the cartridge is complete and is to be removed and another one treated in the same manner, and so on.

Modifications in details may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. An implement for the purpose described, comprising a rest, a decapper mounted to swing in line therewith, a capper, a rammer constituting one of the handles, a charger constituting the other handle, a shaft mounted in one of the handles, and a crimper supported on said shaft, all substantially as herein described.

2. An implement for the purpose described, comprising the pivoted jaws, the handles thereon, one forming a rammer and the other carrying a charger mounted thereon and comprising an adjustable measuring device, and

a crimper mounted on one of said jaws, substantially as described.

3. An implement for the purpose described, comprising the pivoted jaws, the handles thereon, one forming a rammer and the other carrying a charger, and a crimper mounted on one of said jaws, and a rotatably-mounted tubular part held between said jaws, substantially as described. I

4. An implement for the purpose described, comprising the pivoted jaws, the handles thereon, one forming a rammer and'the other carrying a charger, and a crimper mounted on one of said jaws, and a rotatably-mounted tubular part held between said jaws, and a pivotally-mounted decapper, substantially as described.

5. An implement for the purpose described, comprising the pivoted jaws, the handles thereon, one forming a rammer and the other carrying a charger, and a crimper mounted on one of said jaws, and a rotatably-mounted tubular part held between said jaws, and a pivotally-mounted decapper, and a rest for the cartridges mounted on one of said jaws, substantially as described.
